Re: Frank Lee Really Likes His New Wampler Plextortion

Gil Altom pretty much loves anything Wampler. Thank you.

Re: Frank Lee Really Likes His New Wampler Plextortion

Had a Wampler Trainwreck for a little while. Hated it, tried it through 4 different amps and it just sounded thin. Thinking I should have went with the Plextortion. Sound bites??

Re: Frank Lee Really Likes His New Wampler Plextortion

I'd love to try a SLOstortion.
It's $300 around here though, almost 75% of what I paid for my amp head!

Gentlemen-

Please help Frank F. Lee. He quickly and casually recorded two clips (butchering many songs along the way) using the following setup: BF Pro Reverb, Plexi-Drive with drive all the way up and tone around 12:00, Tokai goldtop with Zhlang P90s (supposedly). Frank Lee used a Shure 57 mic into an "Audio Buddy" into Garageband via the line in (which is the headphone jack in His computer). The recording level was set at a reasonable level (not in the red). Yet, in His clips, Frank Lee can hear some sizzle that is not coming from the amp especially when the guitar volume is all the way up. Is something in Frank Lee's recording setup causing this sizzle?

He posted to You Tube, as He does not have another method.

Thank you.

Re: Frank Lee Really Likes His New Wampler Plextortion

frankly the pedal sounds good. thank you.

Re: Frank Lee Really Likes His New Wampler Plextortion

I was wamplerized during the last months.
Once I've tried a couple of pedals, I knew that's what I was always willing to hear so, I rebuilt my pedalboard based on Wampler' stuff.

Pinnacle, Plextortion, SLOstortion and Triple Wreck are very nice distortion units and they do perfectly what you can expect from them but, IMHO, they are all one trip pony, because, at the end, they are some kind of amp-distortion-simulation pedals.

The most versatile distortion unit coming from Wampler is, always in my opinion, the Sovereign. That beast can cover practically everything from overdrive to high distortion. For More high gain, you have the Triple Wreck and for Fuzz tones, the Leviatan. For rest of distortions, Sovereign rules.
I've removed my really loved RAT Whiteface reissue from the pedalboard.
IMHO, the Sovereign is the most organic SOLID STATE distortion pedal, I've ever tried and, versatile enough to cover the sounds of he Plextortion, the Pinnacle and the SLOstortion, or at least leave you in same ballpark.

My 2 cts.

Re: Frank Lee Really Likes His New Wampler Plextortion

thats some pretty high praise...

might have to check out a sovereign

I know how much do you love your RAT, and I know how much do I still love my RAT. The point is that with the Sovereign I can dial the exact disto character I want but, with that organic feeling that the RAT delivers on its sweet spot (around 12:10h, more or less).

Maybe what works for me will not work for you but, definitively, this pedal worths a test. The drawback is that is being sold only on a couple of big american stores (GC and, I don't remember which other one) so, here in Europe, we are sold. I have mine thanks to a friend that went to NY this summer and picked it up for me in one GC' store.

For me, no regret.

A blackface Pro Reverb, a plexi drive and a good P90 guitar? I always knew I liked your style Frank ;)

Re: Frank Lee Really Likes His New Wampler Plextortion

Damn!.
I've read Plextortion instead of Plexi Drive. :smack:
Without any doubt, the Plexi Drive is one of my preferred pedals of all times and, the pedal that made me search for more in Wampler.
Magic pedal!!!

Re: Frank Lee Really Likes His New Wampler Plextortion

Wampler makes some of THE BEST dirt pedals IMO. The Sovereign is the best Distortion that I have ever owned or played. It can cover tons of ground, and I can't make the thing sound bad if I wanted too! Lol I also have a Plexi Drive (clone) and I love it! I plan on gettting the 'real deal' soon, but the clone does sound fantastic.

Re: Frank Lee Really Likes His New Wampler Plextortion

Frank Lee has the Plexi-Drive, but typed Plextortion. He apologizes.

Frank appreciates the posts, especially relative to the Sovereign. It sounds nice. The "amp in a box" thing is great on one level but sometimes even Frank F. Lee forgets the forest for the trees and focuses on whether a pedal sounds like the amp it claims to emulate rather than whether it sounds good and is usable for Frank F. Lee. He likes his old Barber Direct Drive because it just sounds good. He thinks the Sovereign would meet his needs as well.

Mr. Lee recently purchased a used Wampler Tweed 57. He has only had a minute to play same, but it sounds nice. Perhaps He will record something for fun.

Thank you.
