Franklin and single coils...

LesStrat

 I took Franklin with me this weekend when we visited my parents. I wanted to play my old Nitefly through it, to see how it would sound. Also, Pop played his Strat through it.

WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!:omg:

Me likey. In fact, I brought the Nitefly back with me. Pop said, "Go ahead and take it. I might be able to work out a trade in this deal." *hint, hint*

I'm going to do a side by side comparison at the first opportunity. I really had forgotten how much I enjoy playing that Nitefly. It was my second electric, after LesStrat, and it "fits" my hands. I have always liked the tone, even though it has Dmz designed s/c pups in it (passive). It's the original Nitefly, before they went with active circuitry.j

Man, that axe SINGS through Franklin. I don't remember who predicted this, but they were SPOT ON. S/c pups really sound good in that amp.

Fact is, I only have about $150 more invested in the Fly Deluxe than I got for the Nitefly. Of course, I asked that it not be sold without offering me a chance at buying it back. :wow:

A couple of strange things, though:

1. In the bedroom where the music gear is stored in Pop's house, I was getting a pretty strong ground buzz. Not overly surprising, since the house was built in the early '60s, a Jim Walter home, and it has no separate ground circuit (all outlets are two-wire in the walls).

2. The power indicator light flickered while in that room, and when I used the amp the next day in the living room, the light was off completely. But the buzz was gone.

I just plugged in Franklin in my house, and the light works fine.

Maybe Papa Smurf or an electrician, or another amp guru will be along shortly and can explain that phenomenon.:?:

Re: Franklin and single coils...

It's call a ground loop and is capable of shocking you if the line and neutral circuits get crossed.

Have your house rewired possibly could save your life.

Re: Franklin and single coils...

But why would a ground loop affect the power light?

Clarification: The ground hum was in my parents house, not mine. I have NO hum when I play it at home or at church.

Most importantly, Franklin sounds AWESOME with a s/c equipped axe!
