Re: FREE! Eventide UltraChannel plug-in Giveaway

hmmm - looks like their stand-alone omnipressor plugin goes for $150. appears to be a good deal here! I get a bit bogged down in trying new plugins to where I eventually can't tell what sounds good or bad after all the A/Bing. Usually the only compressor I end up using is logic's tape compression simulation - most other ones seem to squash the life out of everything. Anytime I try a parametric EQ on something I make it worse then it started.

I don't think I have a nice go-to pitch shifter though, maybe I'd use that part of it.

What's transformer emulation mean? (oh I found it: "This feature adds harmonics to low frequency material while remaining relatively transparent to the rest of signal. While relatively subtle, in aggregate, Transformer can bring life to otherwise dull mixes and help glue disparate sound sources together") - neat!

Re: FREE! Eventide UltraChannel plug-in Giveaway

I downloaded it I figured why not. I can always use another delay and Eventide's stuff is always top notch.

Re: FREE! Eventide UltraChannel plug-in Giveaway

This looks like a great tool. Will download tonight.
Thanks for the heads up!

Re: FREE! Eventide UltraChannel plug-in Giveaway

I can't get Logic to recognize it. I emailed Eventide. Product is not listed in pull down menu to choose. I followed steps on FAQ

Re: FREE! Eventide UltraChannel plug-in Giveaway

Well that sucks! Pls let me know if you get it to work; I have Logic Pro X. Is that what you are running?

Re: FREE! Eventide UltraChannel plug-in Giveaway

Awesome, thanks for the follow up!

Did it work?

I will probably not get a chance to do it before tonight or this weekend.

Re: FREE! Eventide UltraChannel plug-in Giveaway

Got mine installed and running. It's interesting software.

The EQ is far from subtle even though it borrows the SSL color scheme. My SSL EQ is REALLY smooth and quite subtle in comparison.

Having 2 comps on the same channel strip is great; the modern one is really fast and quite transparent; the other one is more like an 1176 style. I was able to get a nice squash/level ride by using the 2:1 with about 6dB of GR.

Didn't try the delay.

The micro shift is great; that will see a lot of use. :)

The transformer saturation sounds pretty nice, too, but it can add a lot of upper bass/lower mid girth, so I would probably not use it everywhere. I could see it being used to beef up a thin vocal or guitar track, or perhaps something tracked with a really bright sounding mic, like an SDC.

This plugin will probably see a fair amount of use for basic, clean compression and transformer saturation. Not sure it will overthrow my beloved MEqualizer (which is FREE).

I would probably pass on it for $250, though ... the combination I have of Waves plugins along w MEqualizer achieves basically the same end at much less cost. If you don't want to spring for an 1176, Kramer PiE, or Kramer Master Tape ... I could see this plugin being a real life saver.

Logic Pro X's convolution EQ is VERY sweet and quite gentle; I really like it for general polish. Eventide's EQ is far more aggressive. I do like the fact that you can sidechain the compression and gate; great for treating drums. Overall, I would say the UltraChannel is a great drum-fixing tool ... clean it up w this and then send it to a bus w Kramer Master Tape & PiE and you will have a kick-butt sounding drum bus I think!

Re: FREE! Eventide UltraChannel plug-in Giveaway

Hmm .. Have just spent some quality time w the UltraChannel on guitar and drum buses.
Not offended, nor am I wowed.
Overall, the plugin is just meh to me.

It's certainly not bad ... I think I am too used to using plugins that add character.

Perhaps this plugin is too transparent for my tastes?

Re: FREE! Eventide UltraChannel plug-in Giveaway

It is a different flavor. But it is a free flavor so what the hell.

Drums is really what I THINK I need it for. Messed more with Logic since you praised it and really good stuff. I basically had not got pass a few recording with Logic, only had a few weeks. Logic is sweet

Re: FREE! Eventide UltraChannel plug-in Giveaway

Agreed, it has great work flow and some REALLY nice user-friendly operation!

2 cases in point:

- I moved one of my projects from a sub folder in Documents to my desktop; I didn't have to tell Logic where to find the new file location, it just automatically did so and even saved my bounces to the correct location.

- I just did 16 bounces of a reamp clip using several microphones. When I imported the bounces to a new project to lay them out, Logic told me there was tempo information associated w these WAVs and did I want to import that as well? I said, yes; and bingo, instant tempo map again even though I didn't specifically save it that way.
