free pedal day(metal zone content)

super rad stuff

Skaforlifeologist
so my girlfriend came home today with a metalzone. used to be her dad's, but he moved to michigan and doesn't play guitar anymore, so her mom said to give it to me. when she told me i was a little less than ecstatic, seeing how it's just a metal zone. however, i was pretty surprised at how good it sounds at low volumes when EQ'd well.

i think it has to do with the fact that my AC15 just doesn't have a ton of low end, so when i put a low-end heavy pedal out front, it just sounds fat in the low mids. that, and i kept the treble knob down a good bit, i know better as i used to own one when i first started playing! lol

i'unno. it's just a metal zone but it's free. kinda cool, huh?

Re: free pedal day(metal zone content)

you can have fun with any pedal. Enjoy it! maybe even mod the hell out of it for an experiment.

that's what i was thinking. i'll probably keep it stock for a while though. the reason i got rid of my original one in the first place was because i hated the nasally lead tone and didn't like the way it sounded when i rolled the volume back, too much of it's own character. but for rhythms and such, it's actually a pretty good pedal.

Re: free pedal day(metal zone content)

I actually like my metal zone but i use it strictly for bedroom lower than conversation volume jamming. Like that the active EQ seems to work nicely for giving chunk to powerchords. At volume i cant stand the bees humping noise in the high end but for practicing metal rythm quietly its my go to pedal.

Re: free pedal day(metal zone content)

There are some fairly good mods you can do to that pedal that will serve you good....

that's exactly why i haven't gone looking for another one, whenever i go out and see a band and a guitarist is using one of these, i end up hating the tone. but quietly at home, it sounds pretty good. maybe a nice recording tool?;)

Re: free pedal day(metal zone content)

Dude it makes a killer boost. Listen to crowbars rythym tone. That a stock metal zone boosting a old randall

Re: free pedal day(metal zone content)

can't beat the price! a cool mod might be bypassing the tone knobs all together.

Re: free pedal day(metal zone content)

If you get bored of it, search for the 'Diezel' mod.

It becomes a new pedal with fantastic mids and better highs.

Re: free pedal day(metal zone content)

free is always good, that pedal sounds great with the monte allum mods...

Re: free pedal day(metal zone content)

Holy crap

WELCOME BACK!

holy karp, thanks!

thanks for all the modding tips, but i think i'm going to keep this free pedal just that... free;) at least for now. if i really want to mod it, i'll do it for super cheap just like i did my ds-1 where i went and bought the components at radioshack for scrap change.

This. Pretty fun in front of a 5150 as well. I wish I still had one actually, need to fix that one day. My HM-2 needs an early 90's nasty sound buddy.

Re: free pedal day(metal zone content)

I think it is a pedal you could mod and not use for metal tones but maybe crazy noisy punk tones or like lo fi tones in the breakdowns, intros etc (in the same way the beginning of territorial pissings is the worse tone ever but great for the song)

Re: free pedal day(metal zone content)

You know, when I hear guys b!tch about this pedal sucks or this is the Uber-dirt pedal....

All I can think is that they are not very creative, and would follow the lemmings into the sea.

There a thousand different flavors of dirt. And they are all good for something. You'd be amazed how many things sound good at the right volume and eq'd correctly that trashed by intarweb idiots.

Couldn't agree more, I had a modded metal zone that i sold a while back but after seeing how Dan Donegan uses one i wish i was able to try it out with a tube amp.
