Fret buzz on the open strings?

Hi there. I got my SG back a little while ago from having a new nut installed, and since then I've been getting a lot of buzz on the wound strings on the lower frets, and even when I play the wound strings open. Do you think the tech cut the nut slots too deep? What else could be causing this?

I'd be willing to bet that the slots are too deep and the strings are rattling on the first fret. Did he also do a setup?

Take it back. It shouldn't do that.

Yes, the tech did do a setup. I've since attempted to tweak it to get rid of the fret buzz, and nothing short of raising the action to being unplayable helped. This guy is a very well respected tech, and I figured it might be smart to ask on here before I brought my concerns to him.
