Fret Edges Filing

Quick question to everyone here. My fret edges have always been tad bit over the board on some frest. I was wondering if I can use a normal metal file to file them down and if this works well. It's not like there hanging far over the edge, bu a couple aren't as smooth as I want.

So how do you file your fret edges to be flush with the fingerboard?

yes you can.. use one without too much cutting power so you don't rip off too much at once.. I do fret leveling & end beveling with a regular metal file. you might want to tape off the spaces in between the frets until you get used to doing it so you don't accidentally tear up the fretboard.

and go slow! run your finger over it often and just file as much as you need to. It's easy to get carried away and the frets file away faster than you'd think (even stainless steel files away pretty quick).

You should think of this as a warning sign. If your frets are sticking out of the edge of the neck, your guitar is drying out too much. What you should be doing is keeping your guitar properly humidified during to colder months of the year.

#1. Always keep your guitar in its case when you are not playing.

#2. Invest in a good Hygrometer. They run about 30$ and you want to try to keep the room the guitars are stored in about 45 to 50% humidity.

#3. Get a room Humidifier. Measure the room and get one that is appropriately sized to humidify the room. Avoid the mister styles. You can get these at home depot or any other appliance type of store.

Proper humidity will eliminate any problems wiith your frets sticking out in the future. The lack of humidity can cause countless other problems. Frets are just the beginning!
