Re: Fret polishing.
I had to clean the oxidized frets on my explorer recently. I used the blue Scotch painters tape which left a little sticky residue on the sides of the neck. Used a damp towel to wipe the residue off. I used 0000 steel wool on the frets. About five minutes, and I was done. Spent more time taping the fretboard than the actual work.
I also covered the rthym pup with a business card, and then covered the top of the guitar with newspaper. After working on the frets, I used the vacuum hose to clean any steel wool bits off the guitar before removing the tape and newspaper.
