*** Able to go for $875 shipped for this today, then to ebay. *** let me know.

My writing partner has asked me to sell this guitar for him. Oddly enough in 1992 he sent me a check prior to his return from Japan and asked me to buy it for him... so here we are full circle and now I am selling it.

I am going to post on ebay next weekend if I do not get any bites here or on TGP...

I purchased this guitar brand new from Crown Music in Milwaukee in 1992. It has only had one owner. This is 100% original SG Standard in Cherry in the original case (combo lock never set, still has red tag in it. The case has a few scuffs but is 100% operational and structurally sound.

This guitar has been professional set up about once per year since purchased and has been gigged about 12 times total in it's life, the balance of it's use has been in studios for recording sessions and in the home studio. Guitar has always been stored in it's case, not hung up or set on a guitar stand.

There have never been any repairs to it, the neck is straight, the truss rod works, and the pickups and electronics are all original and fully functioning.

Issues:
The two volume knobs have lost their indicator plates. Knobs all still work 100% fine, no noise or issues, just the loss of the little metal insert that used to say "volume" (see photo)

The headstock has 2 dings on the top of it. They are very easy to see in the photo. They break the finish to where you can see the wood, but they are just chips, the wood beneath is sound.

The front of the headstock also has a small scratch. (visible in photo)

The front of the guitar has scratch they shape of a Z. This is the worst scratch on the guitar. Two photos below show it. I am not sure if it breaks the finish... there was never an effort to polish out due to fear that we may further harm the guitar. This scratch happened in the studio when a piece of rack gear tipped into the guitar.

The back of the guitar has some surface scratch swirls... not like full on buckle rash, and not through the finish, but definitely noticeable standard play wear.

There are maybe 2-3 other tiny dings on the body which I was unable to get to photograph, but nothing of consequence. If there are serious concerns I can try to photo again.

That is about it. This guitar is located in Wisconsin, just outside of Milwaukee. Since I am a bit of a freak about shipping, I would love to sell it to someone nearby, otherwise I will be taking it in it's case to UPS to have them pack it and ship it with insurance, so I am planning on shipping charges to be high.

If you have the patience for your check to clear, I will take a personal check. I will also take a money order or paypal.

I am offering the guitar here with case for $875 + Shipping. Bear in mind, shipping will be expensive. I am guessing $75 when it is all said and done. So, I will ask for $950 then I will email you the actual shipping receipt and if it was less I will refund the difference. If insured shipping and packing costs more, I will eat the difference.

If you are in Milwaukee, Chicago or the Twin Cities I will gladly do a cash deal and arrange to meet up with you.

Let me know if you have any questions. I travel quite a bit, so if you do not hear from me please be patient.

Re: FS 1992 US Made Cherry Gibson SG Standard with Case - $950 includes shipping

Can anyone give me any feedback on this? I have not received any bites at all and I am wondering if SG's are out of favor, if this one looks too beat up, or if my price is out of line.

I checked ebay pretty well and think that I am at least in the ball park.

Anyone interested? Special pricing consideration for face to face, cash in hand deals out of Chicago, Milwaukee or Twin Cities.

Let me know.

I will likely go to the bay with a $1 start no reserve auction if I cannot move here.

Thanks,

Jim

Its a great looking SG and a great year for Gibsons in general. I dont think your price is out of line.

Problem I've noticed is here: on these boards most people are not interested in anything but a giveaway price-wise..and rarely interested in guitars over a 3-4 hundred bucks.

Not to mention there's alot people who just tire kick or change their minds after they say they will take something off your hands.

You are better off moving this on Ebay.

Everybody is in "snipe bargins" mode, even on Ebay.

If you can hold it until the housing market uncollapses you have better chances.

as a side note...you would be better off shipping it fedex. Use their home delivery option and it will be significantly cheaper than UPS. You still get all the insurance/confirmation options.

Gorgeous guitar, but ive never got on with SGs myself. Good luck

While I would be willing to bet its quality surpasses more modern Standards. But the fact is that it is a Used SG standard with a few small points of interest. I'd say $850+Shipping is much more intersting price here. Ebay...with the right pictures and description you would probably be able to get your desired price. but that all depends...

I personally plan on buying a Standard myself before 2009...I will not spend more than $900 used. But I'll need to play it first and get a Cherry finish to see how many pieces the body is made of and feel the neck shape and see how much got sanded away in finishing at the factory. Also I'm really picky when I spend more than $400 on a Guitar...

Fedex insurance' doesn't pay for musical instruments, though, at least not when not packaged by Fedex.

UPS might or might not.

Huge thanks to all who have replied. I appreciate the insight and suggestions.

I will likely throw it up on the bay on monday for a 7 day. My buddy says in an auction he would be happy gambling so I think we are going to start it at $1 with no reserve. That ought to get the bidders hopping!

As always, thanks for the help.

Re: FS 1992 US Made Cherry Gibson SG Standard with Case - $950 includes shipping

I have a 1998 SG Std. and a 63 Special, so I'm just not interested either.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

On the auction, just say that scratch is the mark of Zorro:lol:

Also mention in the auction that it has the ABR-1 bridge. All new SG Stds have the Nashville bridge, so that might be a selling point. I think a lot of people prefer the tone of the vintage ABR-1, which you can only get on Historic models.

Bump for a price reduction.... Trying to avoid ebay if possible.

That's a definite! Some real tightwads here.

Yeah, it makes a bunch of sense to pay the same price for a guitar you can't play first as one at a store close by.

You could probably move a Tele quickly, but SGs don't seem to be particularly hot at the moment. That is a good price, though. Good luck with your sale :)
