First things first, this isn't all original. The previous owner decided to hack up the body, dump out all the original electronics, install a pickguard on it and generally beat the crap out of it, so I got a replacement USA-made alder body from Mojobodies.com and got it refinished in gloss black - the finish has some minor imperfections and surface scratches, but they can be buffed out, I just haven't had the time or supplies to do so. They're unnoticeable unless you're like looking at them several inches away, as the pics demonstrate.
The parts I've used to reassemble the body are all high-quality stuff. The pickup is a Tom Anderson H3 - awesome ceramic high-output crunch, but with a subtle alnico-ish warmth to the sound - one of the best pickups to use with Mesa amps, and what Mesa actually uses to test theirs. It's definitely not sterile like most ceramic pickups, and sounds really organic. The cleans are killer, too.
The bridge is a Gotoh Floyd Rose. Excellent MIJ quality, comparable to the OFRs (and some say they're even better, like John Suhr). Gotoh made the Ibanez Edges and Lo-Pro Edges, and this is about the same ballpark in terms of quality. I've strung it up with 10s in E Standard.
Other specs: 24-fret ebony fretboard, neck binding, MOP inlays and headstock logo, 24.75" scale (like a Gibby - great for bends and fast runs), recessed Gotoh straplocks - I'll throw in a really nice leather strap, too. The neck itself is slightly worn given the age, but still in great shape - frets are wide and flat with no dead spots or dings, and the neck is satin oil-finished on the back, insanely smooth, and one of the thinnest and best-feeling necks I've had on a guitar before. It's somewhat comparable to an Ibanez Wizard in terms of thinness and radius, but it just feels a bit comfier. Oh, and the neck plate serial is 001117, which makes it the 1117th USA Jackson out of the Ontario facility and dates it to 1991 according to Jackson's serial number info. One note, the electronics/trem cavity cover plates aren't included, but you can probably pick those up cheap at any music store (other than mine because they weren't in stock.
)
I'm asking $500 + shipping with the original case (slightly scuffed up and a couple stickers, but still in great protective shape), which I consider a fair price for an older USA guitar with significant aftermarket work. I'd also love to trade for tube heads. This is a killer shredder, and will blow away anything you can find new (or possibly even used) in the same price range. Why get a MIJ Jackson when you can get this for around the same price or even less?
