Asking $1950....heres a cell phone clip with the variac at 90V at bedroom level...preamp on 7...PPIMV on 3. Guitar straight in bone dry through a 2X12 with V30s. This amp is capable of much more gain. Its a beast when you turn it up. Looking for a trade too....Superstrat perferably a Suhr or similar

Re: FS: Blankenship Variplex modded by Dave Friedman

Hi, i'm a new entry in this Forum.
I'm from Italy.
I hope to explain correctly my query, because of my english not so good.
I have a question about this topic.
In year 2008 i bought a Variplex from Roy Blankenship,
shipped regularely to Italy, received in perfect condition, but.....
i've always had a problem about the "TONE" of this amp.

I've tried a lot of cabinets, loaded with various types of speakers.

I've tried the Celestion V-30, the Celestion G12T-75, the Celestion Greenback
(to me, my variplex with this kind of speaker, was the best match)
the Eminence "Blue Series" from a Brunetti's Cab......
The tone i was searching for, was always far, far and far away.

So i've decided to try in changing preamp valves, with others from various brands....
none good-achievement.

I've listened to my head, played from some other guys.

I've tried a lot of boost pedals in front of the amp.

The bottom line is: to this day, i still haven't found the tone i was searching for.

I've paid the whole price of this 50 watt head to buy an amp that doesn't sound like i hoped.
Whereas, the sound of this clip is very interesting and very good.
This nice sound has nothing to do with the bad tone of my head.
Can i know what kind of mod have you did on your variplex?
Thanks a lot.
