FS: Dimarzio B1 bridge humbucker (black)

The Dali

MeltedClockologist
Hi there, for sale is a loaded pickguard with a Dimarzio B1 pickup. The pickup is installed in a single-humbucker pickguard and is wired to a Bournes pot with a coil split. Plays great , and in great condition. See the photos - F-spaced.

The B1 pickups don't come up very often. Looking for $100 for the pickguard, pot and pickup (shipped). Thanks!

Re: FS: Dimarzio B1 bridge humbucker (black)

I thought the B1 was the Ernie Ball Van Halen pickup and only comes in Zebra ?

Re: FS: Dimarzio B1 bridge humbucker (black)

It is the EB VH pickup according to my research. Not sure if it only comes in Zebra. I bought from a forum member here a while back.

Re: FS: Dimarzio B1 bridge humbucker (black)

The EB van halen only comes in zebra and has a black painted base plate.

It's never been made in any other colour.

Sorry mate.

Well, you may be correct... but this pickup also has "B1" on the baseplate... no other markings. I took another look online and I guess Dimarzio has this annoying habit of supplying pickups as OEM pups that have different markings than the "for sale" markings of pickups. Why they would call the EVH pickup a B1 and then create another pickup, for OEM application, and stamp B1 on the baseplate is beyond me...

In any event, according to research, these B1 pickups were OEM in the Ibanez Prestige RGT3120 and are PAF Pros (B1 is bridge, N1 is neck).

Sorry for any confusion!

Re: FS: Dimarzio B1 bridge humbucker (black)

They didn't call the VH a B1 mate.
B1 simply designates the bridge position.

You might try contacting EB to ask them to help you identify it.

Re: FS: Dimarzio B1 bridge humbucker (black)

You're both right. The EBMM "Axis" bridge is indeed marked "B1", but has a black baseplate. DiMarzio also produced other winds stamped "B1" that were found on Ibanez and, if my memory serves me correctly, Yamaha guitars, though all of the non-EBMM/Axis pickups had bare brass baseplates as the one shown here.

Dali, what's the resistance on this one? Can you see the magnet enough to tell if its ceramic or alnico?

I think that guitar had actual PAF Pros in it. :D

*This* particular B1 is probably a Tone Zone-ish pickup.

Thanks for the updates guys. I just metered the pickup - 8.01

Here are a couple additional photos.

The pickup has "dimarzio" written on the bobbin.

Re: FS: Dimarzio B1 bridge humbucker (black)

PAF Pros have hex polepieces on both coils. This don't have that.

....and the mystery goes on. Maybe Dominus was right about it being tone-zone based.

Dimarzio used regular poles for the PAF pro that was in the import richie sambora fender strat.
The B1 is a custom wound paf according to dimarzio
