Something Cool
BOTH SOLD!
For sale is my 1993 Gibson Explorer in Heritage Cherry, all original.
$750 shipped including original case.
This Explorer sounds very hot and aggressive on the bridge pickup and I'd like it a bit mellower. I'll stay with Les Pauls and I probably try out a SG (for trades see below). It will make somebody very happy sound-wise but make no mistake, this guitar is not just about looks. I also want a thicker neck.
The neck profile is about the thickness of a slim taper or wizard neck, but it has more shoulders, more D than C. Bending on this guitar is heaven. The Gibson scale in combination with the in-line headstock and the added beef on the shoulders of the neck to brace your thumb make it much easier to bend the higher strings.
Having said that this guitar sounds very aggressive on the bridge, I got a wonderful picking sound with a Seymour Duncan Jazz in the neck. It ships with the stock neck pickup, which is a 496R that gives you more of a modern heavy metal neck pickup sound that cuts through the mix.
When considering the price keep in mind this thing is huge and costs me a lot in shipping. There is no way to ship this internationally, sorry. Here's what we are dealing with in comparison to a LP case:
The guitar is very light on scratches and buckle rash but has two real dings in the paint:
No fractures, no repairs, all parts original. Gibson being Gibson, there is some manufacturing residue between frets 17 and 18. You cannot feel this, the high frets keep your fingers way above it. All pots work without noise or scratching. Plug is tight. Freshly set up and intonated with Dean Markley Custom Lite. Case has all latches working and a working number combination lock.
Here is a picture of what it looks like with covered pickups (aged covers in this case, not included). A big improvement, IMHO:
Check out the wood grain on the back of the neck:
There are more pictures than you could possibly want here, all in 2592x1944 resolution: http://www.cons.org/music/forsale/explorer/
Again for clarification: Case is included. Strap is not. Shipping in the continental U.S. is included. Ships with stock Gibson pickups open double black 500T and 496R.
I traded with people here and I am mcr875 on Ebay. You can message me through there to verify.

Don't get too hung up on the preferences, if you have something nice shoot me a P.M. I'll add cash as required. I consider a perfect LP Studio to be more valuable than $750.

I want a LP or SG style guitar as follows:
- thick or medium-thick neck, no slim taper
- U.S. made or vintage Japanese (Greco, Burny)
- 2 or 3 humbuckers
- prefer ABR-1 with posts into the wood (no metal anchor) if I have the choice
- no Specials, Classics or the like
Example guitars that fit:
- Les Paul Studio.
- SG standard.
- the better models of Greco and Burny Les Pauls (Greco model 600 and up).
- Or better LP/SG. It is theoretically possible to sell me up to R7, R8, vintage SG or Les Paul Custom. I'd do anything for a three-pickup wine red LP Custom.
Don't get too hung up on the preferences, if you have something nice shoot me a P.M. I'll add cash as required. I consider a perfect LP Studio to be more valuable than $750.
