Vintage 70's gibson Amp, the head (Lp-1) is just a preamp with tremolo and reverb built in. the Cabinet is 6 speakers in total, 4x12" and 2 University Horns in the top. There is a Power amp in the bottom of the cabinet that powers these speakers.

take a look there for more pics, but that is not the actual one for sale, its just really hard to find images of this amp online, from what I gather its pretty rare.

I'm honestly just trying to get rid of it, It takes up a lot of space/not my thing, andI don't really know if it works or not, just make me an offer, on either the preamp or the cabinet, and we'll see if we can work something out.

I'll drive to New Foundland and pick it up tommorow.
Sorry for being a smara$$ :)
It would coost a fortune to ship that cabinet from N.F. Anyway where is that/ Near Nova Scotia?

Re: FS: Gibson Lp-1 and Lp-2 Amplifier

haha its all good!
yeah, the eastern most point of this continent! I know it'd be a lot to ship, but even just the head or something...not a lot of vintage guys here are looking for one of these, might be able to sell it in pieces though, never know!

Whoa, flashback! I played with a bass player in high school who had a pair of Standel powered bass cabs - they were the same as that thing, but with 2 15's each. He drove them with a GBX preamp head.

Jerry, I knew you'd be involved in this thread as soon as I saw the title.

Hi Rich,

Long time no see (or speak)! Rob. L. used a GBX pre-amp with 1 or 2 Gibson 800-G cabs. He sold one 800-G cab to me,
and I used a Standel pre-amp w/reverb with it. Sometmes I would play my Fender Rhodes through it with a Mutron Phasor.
For a while we actually used the 2 800-G cabs for a PA! Unfortunately, I sold my rig to a guitar student decades ago....

Off topic, yes, but let down? Not so much. I haven't seen or talked to Sam_P in about 35 years. Back in the dark days of disco, when us guitars players had nothing better to do, I re-purposed my band's stage lighting system for disco DJ gigs. Sam was the DJ. When disco died, my college new wave party band rented our PA mains from Sam.

Here's an earlier band, around 1979 or so at our high school. That's me with The Les Paul and Sam's PA cabinet on the left.

Sam, ETC.. has started doing annual reunions in early summer. Last June, several of the old AHS gang were present to see us. Rudy S (who also played those Gibson cabs at one time), Alan F, Don Y, and Dan S. Look me up on FB or PM me your email. Let's stay in touch and get together next year.

They were just your run-of-the-mill '70s solid-state guitar or bass amp, but with no power. The real fun started when you added multiple powered cabinets. The ones Sam and I are talking about were 100 watts or so, with 2 15's each. A pair of them made a pretty potent bass system for a high school rock band. I remember laughing at the GBX owners manuals, which had a warning that if you connected more than four of their powered cabs, it could damage your hearing.

I'm enjoying your TR-2, by the way. There's a pic of the latest version of my pedalboard in the "Let's see..." thread.

Hi Rich,

Great pic of your late '70's band! I still own 6 Yamaha A4115H cabs like the one in the pic. (but haven't used them
for years). I was fortunate to have a friend (R.R.) that worked at a nearby music store to get Yamaha gear at cost.
So I went through a Yamaha EM150-II powered mixer (I saw a used one online for $300 recently), PM700 12x2 ch.mixer,
M916 16x2 ch mixer, and finally bought a used PM2000 32x8 for $7,500 which I eventually sold to the Keswick in the mid '90s!
It weighed 400lbs with it's road case!
