FS: Gibson The Paul

Here's the final posting for my friend who's cleaning house in preparation for some new gear. Check my other posts for some really nice boutique amps.

Gibson "The Paul" in good original condition. Walnut body, two Dirty Fingers pickups (12/27 Edit: Not correct. Most likely T-tops, but see later posts for clarification.) Solid workhorse guitar; an oddity which, compared to many of Gibson's modern offerings, doesn't seem all that odd any more. The Bogner Duende is available, in another post.

Bump. The only interest so far has been from the Telecaster forum, and that just ain't right.

Re: FS: Gibson The Paul

Dude, I'd like think about picking this up.

I'm semi-local, how does your friend feel about me showing up and trying it out?

Edit: Neverind, just realized he's in Ohio. Not so local now, haha.

If I wasn't flat broke I'd pick that up from you just for nostalgia's sake! I remember when this and The SG came out. At the time, everyone cracked on it because it was wood tone. I thought it was sweet. I also thought the Sonex was sweet, ha ha. I hope he sells it. I tried a few out and they are FINE guitars.

Re: FS: Gibson The Paul

Billy and the Boingers ROCK!

You make me sick (way-o way-o way-o)
You make me sick...you really stink girl
You make me sick (way-o way-o way-o)
But I luuuv U.

When I got her in my back seat
And I tried to make my move
I had to roll down all the windows
To keep my face from turning BLUE!

Okay, now somebody buy his guitar.

Re: FS: Gibson The Paul

Those do not appear to be Dirty Finger's. I blew up the image and I only see pole screws on one side, all 12 should be screws. They look like T-Tops. I missed one in a local auction that sold for $500 in like condition

Could you measure the pups? In the 7.5k Ohms area they should be T-Tops until beginning 1980. Later models ....?? Maybe you see ink prints on the bottom of the pickups.

Re: FS: Gibson The Paul

I'll PM Mike (registered here on the SDUGF as Woundtight) and let him know there are some questions. I'll be in Cleveland the week of Jan 3, and hope to get together with him then. We can probably get any measurements and what not done then.

Re: FS: Gibson The Paul

If they are T-tops, the pickups alone would then command a very princely sum all by themselves.

I don't see the telltale capital "T" between the 3rd & 4th poles which usually denotes a T-Top. Looks like the pups have been out judging from the wear at the ring screws. Who knows what they are without actually flipping them over and looking for the correct PAT number? They almost look like they were covered before also

Re: FS: Gibson The Paul

Hi Gang, I've been away and missing some of the action on this thread. The guitar is a 1979. I believe they are T-Tops. I do recall at one time reading some info on T-Tops, and noticing that this guitar had them. However, these T-Tops do not leak like the ones on a 79 Corvette! I will confirm when I get back home mid week.

Re: FS: Gibson The Paul

Definitely T-Tops. Interesting how the T's are 'in line' on the neck pickup like this -] -] but on the bridge pickup they are 'back to back' like this -] [-

Re: FS: Gibson The Paul

The been-away-but-now-I'm-back bump. 'cept I'm going away again in the morning.
