It dictates where your signal chain goes. The best way for me to explain is an example.

Here's a really typical example and popular use for these boxes:

Say you have 2 amps, and you want to use one for cleans and one for distortion (say a Fender Super Reverb and a Marshall JCM 800). You gt your signal chain together up to the end of your effects, and plug into the input. Then you put a cable from A to the Fender and a cable from B to the Marshall. Now you can toggle between whether the signal chain proceeds through A (to the Fender for clean tone) or B (The Marshall for some ballsy distortion). The Y option, is A+B meaning the signal goes both paths so you have oth the clean and distorted amp going at the same time (clicking a boost that's between A and the Fender amp when doing this could cause the Fender to break up and giving you 2 overdriven amps for HUGE distortion sound).

Other uses can be having a guitar into A and one into B and using the in/out to go to your pedals and then an amp. That way you can toggle between which guitar goes to your signal chain so you don't have to switch a cable from one guitar to another (making switching guitars easier).

There's a bunch of nifty things they can be used for, these are just two examples!

Or, if you don't want to read an essay, I can sum it up too:

It's a switch, that switches between two amps.

Re: FS: Looopmaster A,B,Y box

woah -- you mean with the looper i could send my signal through my effects chain or totally bypass it and send the signal directly from the guitar to the amp just by hitting the looper?

You could if you had 2 inputs on your amp, one to receive the pedals and one to receive just the guitar.

It's not a looper pedal, it simply splits the signal into 2 branches, which via the A+B or Y button can be used together.

ok - so lemme get this straight -- i do have an amp with two channels, with separate volume controls etc. So with the looper i could bypass my effects chain and send a totally clean guitar signal to one channel, or, with merely the push of a button, send the signal through my effects chain to the other channel of the amp? That would be very handy.

Yes, just remember that if the pure signal is A, and the pedal signal is B, B can't go to A's destination and vice versa (I'm sure that's obvious but just in case). Personally I'd just go with a true bypass strip or loop and go into one input, but that's me, if this is what would work for your needs, then go for it!!

I'd actually prefer being able to go to two channels since that way i can preset the volumes separately for clean chords and loud dirty leads. I sent a PM to b-bent telling him i'd take it. Thanks for the advice guys!

Yeah if you notice my signal chain from the pic above you will see that my tuner doesn't have a cable coming out of it. I isolated the tuner from everything else to keep it out of my effects chain. So my use was as a tuner mute.

Also I play an old Vibrolux Reverb that has 2 channels. I could easily A/B channels if I wanted different volumes.

Check yer PMs!
