EDIT: Price update: I will take 900 SHIPPED paypal or 850 local cash. Hits ebay tonight at 10PM Eastern.
OK Guys, up for grabs is my beloved, and I mean beloved, AC30CC 2x12 which I performed Lyle Caldwell's modifications on it about a year and a half ago (more details on plexipalace.com). Here's the 411 on the amplifier: Cosmetically, I'd say it is around 8/10. The only imperfection in the tolex is shown in a picture on the back corner, it could be superglued down im sure, but I didnt want it to seem like I am trying to conceal something. There are some markings in the gold stripe on the face of the amp which I tried to get a picture of. Other than that, it has been babied. I still have the original "Vox Suggested Settings" piece that came with the amp. OK, enough about its look.
The sound quality is amazing on these amps, and the modifications only make it better. I'm not going to detail the Vox sound here, rather I'll tell you the overview of the mods I did and how it improved the tone. First, the excessively bright cap in the top boost channel was removed. This tamed the icepick highs quite a bit without losing the vox chime. On the normal channel, a 330k resistor was jumped to give it more available gain on tap. I also changed the plate resistors on V1 from 100k to the correct vox value of 220k. This made a huge improvement in bringing the sound and harmonics closer to that of the original JMI voxes. I have it written down that I also did the mod to the tremolo, although my memory escapes me as to what that consisted of... probably more speed or more usable speed. I also replaced every interstage coupling cap for Sozo caps. Finally, I have a Heyboer Woden clone OT that I never installed in the amp, but I will include in this auction. I believe I paid around 150 for the OT. I might have been taken for a ride on that one come to think about it. At any rate, all of the original parts that were removed (or parts I tried in the amp and didnt like) are included in a plastic bag, should you for some reason decide to put it back to stock specs.
Also included is the footswitch and cable, although not pictured. Speaking of which, here's the pr()n.
The above black line in the picture is the string of the Vox tag that is tied to the handle. I moved it out of the way for the top picture.
Oh, and this currently has the Vox Wharfedales installed. I kind of like them, somewhere between a Greenback and a Blue.
A recent unmodded vox in similar condition just went here: http://cgi.ebay.com/VOX-AC30-CC2-Gu...ryZ10171QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem For 850 + 68 shipping = $918. I'm looking to get $900 SHIPPED. Add in the cost of the OT alone without the mods to the ending price of that other amp and your at $1000 alone not figuring in shipping.
And the obligatory "If you love it so much why are you selling it?" I'm planning on getting a handwired.
Oh, and Local dudes: I'll take $850 cash locally and drive to a halfway point within a reasonable distance. I'd really prefer not to ship so I can be sure it is arriving how it is leaving my hands. I am located in Waterbury, CT, between New Haven and Hartford. Would consider driving to the border if need be to meet some of you NY or MA guys even. Cash is king.
PM is best. Hits ebay in a few days if no takers.
Thanks for looking.
