FS: Weber Marshall 18w clone, broken Ibanez Tube King, analog delay, vintage DOD

Ok, so here's the story.

I bought this kit from Weber almost a year ago and I commissioned a guy on another forum to build it for me because I was afraid I'd kill myself. He seemed like an upstanding member and he had built a few amps before, so I paid him $100 to build the kit. He did and the amp sounded great for about two months. I started to get this static/white noise that would creep in after a few minutes of the amp being turned on. The builder said he'd keep the amp under a three-month warranty, but when I emailed him about the problem (within the three months), he magically vanished. So I had a local tech I trusted look at the amp and he was able to fix it. For about a month. He looked at it again, fixed it again, but the problem came back. I've tried new tubes and even a total rewiring, but those were either short-term fixes or not a solution to the real problem. I'd rather put whatever money I have into a new amp instead of continually pumping it into a tech who doesn't know what he's doing. When it's not noisy, is sounds beautiful - pretty **** loud for 18 watts. EL84s and 12AX7s (NOS Jan Philips in V1, standard Sovteks [but not the standard Chinese as included with the kit] everywhere else) in a classic Marshall circuit. No trem -- it's the TMB version. One channel has volume and tone controls and it's pretty tame compared to the TMB channel. Jump the channels and plug into a 2 or 4x12 and you have sweet bluesy/rock tones.

I'm sure someone here is amp savvy enough to pinpoint the problem and fix it. Please PM me with any questions. I have gut shots I can send/post as well if there's any interest.

I've put a lot of time, money and love into this amp, but it's become more of a burden than it's worth for me right now. I'm taking a huge hit on selling this and I'm sure no one will be interested, but I'll sell for $OLD plus actual shipping with insurance. That's close to the same price Weber offers for an unbuilt kit. There's a good amp in there, but I don't have the resources necessary to get it.

Broken MIJ Ibanez Tube King. Used the wrong power supply and it doesn't work. Passes signal and led lights up, but no dirt (probably an easy fix). SOLD
DOD FX90 analog delay. Mint condition with sweet Boss knobs. Still has battery cover. Warm, tapey repeats. Oscillates beautifully. SOLD

Vintage (late 80s) yellow DOD 250. Knobs crackle a bit but it sounds great. $95

Gut pics added!

I'd think about it, if you had an idea what to fix. Like "it needs a new blah blah.." but it sounds like a needle in the haystack to me. Good luck to you though.

Same here...I'd thought about it hard, do not really need the cabinet, as I have one but looking to fill it up with a project amp....but since it is even rewired e.g. needle in haystack indeed..:(

Could you send some pics to my email addy though..of the inside that is?

rbaegen @ dds.nl remove spaces please.

Cheers,
Remy

(ps. yes I seem located Netherlands but have Fla, shipping)

I emailed Ted Weber about the problem and this was his response:

I can't think of anything that would cause that.. offhand. We haven't had any problems of that type with that kit. It almost sounds like a coupling capacitor is breaking down.

The technician needs to go down through each stage and short out the signal at each coupling cap to see where or what causes the noise to stop. That will identify the area of problem.

I'd say the coupling caps are likely the problem -- my tech went over everything except for the coupling caps. I know for a fact it's not a wiring issue, a tube issue or a transformer issue, so the problem is narrowed down at least a little. :) And when the tech rewired it, he didn't change anything. Just consolidated solder joints and etc to make sure wires weren't failing.

Also, the price is for the head and chassis cabinet... I misunderstood and thought you meant the speaker cab. :)

Remy, I'll email you those pics. And I dropped the price! :D

Why don't you fix it, now that you know the problem? You wold prolly get the most satisfaction out of having it fixed.

I've worked out a deal with Ceriatone on my next amp and I don't want to pass it up...just looking to switch gear gears, mostly. There's a lot of money wrapped up in this amp and I'd prefer to put it behind me. What sucks is that I played it for nearly an hour yesterday with no noise.

Re: FS: Weber Marshall 18w clone, broken Ibanez Tube King, analog delay, vintage DOD

For today until midnight, I'll throw in the vintage DOD250 with the amp. That's a $95-$105 value and it sounds awesome with the 18w. DWVINKY has shown some interest in the amp, so he has first crack at it.

I should also mention that I can't take PayPal on the 18w. Fees would kill me. :(
