This is a demo song for the band Silverlined. The music is along the lines of Incubus, Tantric, Audioslave. Guitar and bass is me, the vocals are Tim Lachman, the brother of Pat Lachman (ex-Damageplan), and drums are Chris Sax. We recorded it on my gear in a rehearsal room, but tracked it.

It's a Les Paul (C-5) into the Bogner Ecstasy.

Listen to the lyrics....Tim Lachman is a good writer, and ironically he was almost the new young singer for Judas Priest at the same time his brother, Pat, became the guitarist for Halford, and later, the singer for Damageplan. Tim can belt like Halford, but sang a litte more melodic on this track.

Hey Joe....good tune.

Not sure if it's my computer speakers, but I would prefer a little thicker OD in the solo. The playing rocked, just tone wise it seemed a liitle thin for my taste.

It's difficult to record at a rehearsal studio, because we always had to record when other bands down the hall weren't playing. We basically just mic'ed everything up, and tracked it all individually, but there wasn't a lot of time spend on production. I just threw a Shure 57 in front of a speaker, ran it to the board, and EQ'd it a bit......same with the drums, although we had a compressor on that. The only time there was dead silence to record vocals was in the middle of the night, so that's when we did Tim's parts.

Someday, I'll turn a garage into a pro-level recording studio....completely built up with a control room and everything. Right now, I can only record wherever I can......apartment or rehearsal studio.

The song sounds pretty good! Tim sounds a bit like the guy in Incubus, which I like, but it sounds like he was holding back a bit in the recording. The guitar sounds good in general, but the palm mutes are a little too beefy, while the regular strums seem like they aren't thick enough. As for the recording, most everything sounds great. The only two complaints would be the reverb on the voice is a little much, and there's something about the left side that is bugging me that I can't quite put my finger on.

You take that into the studio wher you can add some production value and a better recording environment and you have a winner on your hands, IMO. Great job, Joe.

Thanks, glad you liked it. Anytime I've tried to be the player, engineer, and producer, I get OK results. It's so much better to have pro engineers do all the work in a nice studio....it's just got to be funded or it's bookoo bucks!

Sometimes, I'm more interested in getting the song down, than I am worrying about all the details. If I'm trying to make it releasable quality, that's when I start getting picky about everything.

Don't sweat Joe.....like Hamerplayr said, you get that all worked up in a studio or controlled environment, it'll be great:bigok:

Yeah, it's crazy what a good engineer can do. Just watching our engineer fuss over a kick drum is a lesson how much us regular players don't know and can't hear.

Cool track, Joe! -really good for a rehearsal room recording. Love the ecstasy rhythm tone. Vox are super high in the mix, though. But hey, it's a demo...

Hmm, I rather like this. Sounds like a bit of a mix of white snake, incubus and nightingale.
