Full plain string set?

Hey guys. I'm looking for a set of strings that is something like 10-52 or 11-52, but ALL of the strings are unwound. I've found unwound strings to be much better for slide and suffer from fewer issues with nut binding.

I looked at all of the pedal steel strings offered on Just Strings (which has a huge array of brands), and I couldn't find anything that had a plain string above 38. My suggestion would be to get a set of flatwound strings. They have a similar texture to the plain ones, and you can get them in an 11-50 set. I looked at the 50's on my guitars, and I think that if you tried to get a plain 50, it's not gonna have an flexibility and your tone is gonna suffer.

Flatwounds are the ticket for a dedicated slide guitar.

fwiw labellas are the smoothest, slickest flatwounds.

If the nut is binding it's not the strings it's the nut.

You won't find unwound strings nearly big enough ti do a full set and I don't think you'd really want it once you did...

If you want a smooth feel and sound flats are the ticket....I am actually trying flats on one of my slide guitars right now, I don't think it's for me truth be told but you might dig it.

Go with the flatwounds, imagine yourself playing thick solid wire, thickness of a low E string and you may get why they do not exist.

I'd be interested to see an unwound low E string wrapped around the post of a machine head.

not sure most tuning machines would last long with that kind of torque.

Its going to depend on the alloy and treatment (Annealing/quenching) but the tension on the string will be the same - just the bend at the machine and the bridge would be of concern.

Anyone know what the core diameter is on a .105 Bass E string is?

Piano wire maybe?
