Full Shred for Classic Rock????

unique name

New member
So I was checking out the seymour duncan artist's page and I noticed both Dickie Betts and Joe Perry are listed as using full shred pickups. Is this an error or just a versatile pickup that's pigeonholed by its name?

Re: Full Shred for Classic Rock????

It's definitely a misleading name

It sounds to me like the word around town is that is is 2 custom 5 screw coils with hex screws is all. Same wind, but tighter and more articulate.

Actually, this is right! It is a great pickup for all kinds of music, not just 80s shred.

Re: Full Shred for Classic Rock????

Full Shreds are quite capable in a lot genres, definitely Classic Rock!!! It's kinda funny that I just happened across this thread, I was literally just rocking some old Cream on my Full Shred loaded A.S.A.T.? It was pushing my new Orange head beautifully!!!

Re: Full Shred for Classic Rock????

Nope. Wouldn't be anywhere near the top of my list for classic rock. I assume we are talking about the bridge pickup, correct?

+1. As a classic rock/blues player, I usually go the PAF route, most of which are pretty versatile.

Sounds like a pretty nice rig!

Re: Full Shred for Classic Rock????

For pure classic rock, I wouldn't generally think of the FS, but it does it well. I tend to go for more warmth in my Classic tones, but not everyone likes that.

Re: Full Shred for Classic Rock????

As purely pickups go - no, not a classic rock pup.

However - in certain guitars…it would be the perfect classic rock pup. [quietly thinks muddy dark Les Paul to himself…]

Re: Full Shred for Classic Rock????

I have a set in a hard tail rg.

Turning the tone knob down yields some nice classic rock sounds. Bridge or neck.
