Full Shred Neck Pickup Clips?

Hello all! I've gotten some good information here in the past. I am about a day away from buying a Les Paul Custom and not being one to leave well enough alone I'll be replacing the pickups. It comes stock with the 490/498T set which are pretty good but I want better. I've decided on a JB for the bridge because I think that it will be the closest to what is already in there with some added heat and harmonics. For the neck I have narrowed it down to a Jazz, a '59 or a Full Shred. The stock 490 in the neck is so so. It seems a tad bit muddy for what I want to do with it. I think that because the Les Paul is a heavier and darker guitar than the Carvins that I have used in the past that the Jazz or the '59 might also be a little two dark or muddy in the neck. I don't know if they would allow me to play rock and metal with them given the somewhat bass heavy EQ that I might be using to fatten up the bottom end of the JB. Is the Full shred neck a good partner to the JB? Anyone have any clips?

Re: Full Shred Neck Pickup Clips?

I put the full shred neck pickup in my strat and had it split for single or double. I realy love the tone of the full shred. clean and split to single it has that nice straty tone and clean full on humbucker it has a nice jazz tone that doesnt fart out the amp. Dirty it has a nice full tone and the higher voiceing brings out the gain nicely so you can get some fat cool leads with it. single split dirty gives you a nice gainy blues tone. this neck version of this pickup realy solved alot of problems for me as I tried alot of other pickups but they were dark or muddy sounding in the neck. I did have this result in a strat so be aware of that but the hotness of the JB will demand a medium output humbucker and to me the Full Shred Neck model would be a great choice.

Re: Full Shred Neck Pickup Clips?

Thanks for the input philthis. What was your strat made of? I am many worried that the full shred would sound to thin or shrill compared to the Jazz which is a nice pickup in it's own right. If it didn't sound shrill or sterile in a strat I would imagine that a darker Les Paul would be fine. What sort of tone pots do you have in your axe?

Re: Full Shred Neck Pickup Clips?

I have a alder body with a maple neck. I have the standard tone pots in there. The Jazz is also a great pickup. for my guitar the full shred neck pickup realy nailed the tone I was after. It is voiced alittle higher and hotter than some of the vintage pickups. I have a Screamin Demon in the bridge so both are medium output a5 mag pickups. The full shred sounds so good distorted that I like to switch off between neck and bridge during solo's and when I'm playing blues I like to switch beteen full on neck and split neck with this pickup cuz its got such a cool tone. Clean its bright but not pierceing bright. its got a wonderful tone in my strat and I like its split tone clean as well cuz its bright thin but it sounds like a regular single coil pickup instead of a weak lathargic imitation of a single coil. The neck model split from full to single does not loose as much volumn as other humbucker somtimes do ether. I didnt like the full shred bridge model however, it was more dark sounding than the screamin demon-not as bright. The Jazz Neck model can sound good in a Les Paul guitar full on. I have not heard it split in the neck position however in a Les Paul style guitar. The Jazz tends to be alittle less bright and slightly thinner but still has a very nice clean tone in the neck of a Les Paul. Sorry I have no clips but I no longer work part time at a guitar store:smack:
