Full Shred set

I am planing to get the full shred set for my Gibson Les Paul, and i planing to get the bridge covered and the neck open for cosmetics reason, but i am wondering how the cover will effect the FSb tone?

Thank You!!!

Re: Full Shred set

Properly potted it shouldn't be much tonal difference. May be a bit warmer/rounder but biggest difference would be if the cover only has 1 set of holes, you just won't have as much adjustment as uncovered. Shouldn't be a problem though, most pups don't need hardly any screw adjustment.

I am also wondering why so many players have the bridge uncovered and the neck covered, but i am doing the opposite, and the cover is made out of nickle btw so how would effect the sound?

Re: Full Shred set

Get the cover from sd and it shouldn't make a difference. And that picture is right, but the other coil (without the screw holes) are adjustable too but you can't get to them with a cover on. Not a problem though.

As for the neck cover, I've done it in the past and it's to warm up a neck slightly. Uncovered are a bit more raw so if you're like me, warm neck, raw bridge.

Re: Full Shred set

when I spoke to SD cust serv about nickel covers, they told me the real SD nickel covers were pretty transparent.

Re: Full Shred set

Seymour and the gang did some A/B tests with the nickel silver covers long ago and it was virtually indistinguishable. There are some covers out there that are made with other materials/thicknesses that do affect the tone.

+1. Seems backwards to me too. Neck HB's could use more treble, and not bridge HB's, which usually have more than you want. If one PU's going to be open coil, it should be the neck.

That's what i always thought especially with darker toned guitars, but its probably because of Page. I dont really know why he did, because i heard people give so many different reasons that i stopped caring
