Its called fitting the product to the market. The guys that want "full shred" want something bright to cut through tons of distortion, which is why they also like actives, ceramic magnets, & Duncan's JB. Manufacturers give them what they want and everybody's happy. Lots of mids with rounded high ends doesn't work well with gobs of distortion.
If you want rich warm tones, steer clear of stuff made for metal heads (duh) & talk to some blues guys. What kind of music are you playing?
