Full Shred

BloodRose

Professional Scapegoat
My local shop has a full shred in stock. What does that pup sound like? Eq curve? dist level? Anything else? I know very little about that pup, but know some guys love em.

They also had a Blues trembucker in stock too.. So tempted. just didnt have $89

Re: Full Shred

Would that be George's? I saw the Blues TB, but didn't notice the Full Shred. ;)

Re: Full Shred

Yep, that would be Georges.. ; ) we'll have to arrange meet there sometime! I dont get out there much

Re: Full Shred

I love my full shred bridge pickup...it's still waiting to be reinstalled into a different axe. Hmmm....how to describe the sound. Well, it's clean sounding even when the distortion is piled on with good note to note seperation. I think that part of the tone come from the double rows of allen head screws. I use it for heavier toned material, like Dream Theater, and it does that job very well. Some folks find it bright, but I find it just right. Also, the clean tone sounds great to my ears. Some here don't think that it sounds too good clean, but I think it's really tight and ballsy, not too warm or too brittle sounding.

Hope that helps...

Re: Full Shred

There's a clip of me putting the Full Shred through it's paces somewhere in my profile ... look for my website if it's working ... ah shoot I'll just ... http://www.soundclick.com/bands/6/darkspheremusic.htm

As for EQ curve ... I don't really pay attention to that as it really depends on the guitar and the amp. Some can find it overly bright, others it's dark and yet maintains a strong clarity ...

dist level? It can keep clean ... but in the bridge I'm not really a fan of the Full Shred as it sounds a little to compressed ... but add distortion and this thing loves it

Anything else? Really look at the rig you'll be using with this and what you normally like for pickups ... if you're a CC / AP2 type person ... it'll be brighter with less bass.

Basic last words about the Full Shred ... the String to String definition is the heart of this pup ... This is the only pup that actually has CHRUNCH ... almost tele area ...

For the average rig ... I'd say the Full Shred will be brighter than you expect (unless you're a JB fan), and if you find the bass to be missing ... add a closed back cab ... it'll hit you with a really tight bass (firm perky ass if you will)

Re: Full Shred

Hey BloodRose and Artie, I heard a rumor that Guitar Center is coming.......supposed to be built and open for operation by the Super Bowl.

Pretty realiable source too, I am just waiting to see if that is true. I have to admit that I buy all of my Seymour pickups from Black Rose Customs online though. But I do go to Georges periodically to see what they have, and to look at the 2 girls !!!!!

It should be interesting if Guitar Center does come, as to what will happen with the smaller type shops around here (?????)

The 2 girls! :saeek: You must go to the one at the beach's.

I too, buy all my p'ups from either BlackRose, Lew, or the Tading Post. Although, just got a great deal on a set from the Peavey forum.

Yeah, we all gotta meet up sometime, maybe over at RagTime's or The Sundog, and do some guitar shop-hoppin'. ;)

BTW - You guys should make it a point to get over to Don's Music & Pawn over on Blanding, a block north of San Juan Blvd. The guy's got a huge selection of old Strats, Tele's, Gibsons, and a nice acoustic room, and amp selection. Its worth a trip. ;)

Re: Full Shred

Thanks!! Hmm 2 girls?? No girls there when I was... Yeah, I too buy my pups from Blackrose, Lew or used. Local pricing is too steep!
Ive never been to guitar center. Id like to see more choices here, but not heard alot of good things about GC..
Artie, Dons is awesome! I tested a 5150 combo in there a few months back. tempting!! If I ever get some $$ for an LP, Ill score one there. He has the best selection. Yeah, used, but cant come near affording a new one. Like to get a Studio. Last time in there, they had a really whupped explorer. Was alil pricey..
Ever go to Chips? Think Ive asked that before.. He is the only guy Ill let work on my guitars. I do most work myself...

Re: Full Shred

Speaking of Don's, there is a guy there that is excellent for repairs. His name is Buddy. His factory certified by most of the bigger name companies and recently had to start taking his work home with him. He only works 3 days a week, but takes stuff home to his shop and has a quick turnaround. He hasn't really done any repairs for me personally, but I like to go into the shop to see what he is working on at any given time. I do most of my repairs also, but I have seen this particular guy make a "nasty looking" Les Paul broken neck as good as new and then hide any clue that it was ever broken. He is very good at stuff like that and he is hilarious to stand around and talk to.

Don is very cool too. He knows Les Paul personally, used to hang around with Chet Atkins, etc. He definitely knows his stuff and has many funny stories about the old timers.

Re: Full Shred

Heh - so you guys probably know Don's even better than I do. ;)

Hey Bloodrose; I'm not familiar with "Chip's". At least, not by that name. Can you elaborate? I'm not really happy with the setup I've done on my new Peavey Gen. I'ld like to see it done by a pro just to see the difference.

Thanks, Artie

Re: Full Shred

Chip's shop is in a little strip mall on Southside blvd down near where beach meets southside. 3505 Southside blvd. 641-2003. He does good work.
