Full shreds and pole pieces

Anytime I've tried the Full Shred, I was amazed at how little lows and mids there were. The Custom 5 had a great bass on every guitar I'd used it on.

I've always been under the impression the Full Shred is something you kinda have to experience first hand. On both Keith Merrow's clips and in most shootouts, it never comes off as that bright or tight, especially as you start to compare it to the Dimebucker or the Distortion. Not saying it's a bad thing, but maybe the "under the fingers" experience is different.

I've got a Full Shred in the bridge of my DK24 and it is great. Sure, it is a bright pickup, but the lows and mids are understated, not absent, and it's nothing a little EQ lovin' can't fix.

I'm torn a bit. From the metal standpoint, it's a great name, particularly suited to the Lvciferion crowd. But yeah, it in no way conveys how versatile the pickup actually is. You can use it for all kinds of non-metal applications quite handily.

I personally probably wouldn't have tried the Black Winter if it wasn't for the Amorphis-inspired name and the Scandinavian Metal association, LOL.

I won't disagree that it's a versatile pickup, but it's 16k with a triple ceramic. If they had targeted directly to anyone but the Metal crowd, it probably wouldn't have had the success it has.

FWIW, I think the BW and the Nazgul have the coolest names in the Duncan lineup.

Yeah, I think even though the Black Winter can do a lot of different stuff, the marketing is great. It's a great name, and I love the dark graphics. As popular as that kind of music is, it reached the right people.

I compared a FS to a FS/JB Hybrid made by Orpheo. The JB coil filled in nicely some mids and lows and sounded fuller. So the FS had to go.

As for the Naz, I wonder how they got away with the name without paying the Tolkien estate for its use. Or maybe they did?
