full size humbucker for one-trick pony strat - just distortion

Re: full size humbucker for one-trick pony strat - just distortion

Lots of choices. All mentioned.

Given the lack of need for UBER distortion, and the amps involved….I'm going to throw out something a little unusual; Jazz Bridge.

Get a Custom or a JB. The JB is a snarly, middy, extremely compressed pickup. The Custom has the same sort of aggressive attack, but is a bit more crunchy and stinging, without so much compression.

JB would be a good possible choice. Depending on the body wood another good choice would be the 59/C Hybrid. I've got one I put together with an UOA5 in an Alder Strat. Sounds grate through my Mark V.

Don't mean to bump this back up - but I thought for search purposes I'd report in. You always wonder what happens after all that advice on threads...

So I actually got lucky and scored a mim strat some guy had modified to be single hum, rosewood, with a JB already in it. I tried the JB through all my amps and some pedals. A little flubby on the clean, and not exactly what I envisioned with distortion (shows how hard it is to put into words). Then I put in a Distortion trembucker - and the magic appeared. That was what I was going for after all. Freaking awesome gain, cuts like a knife as one commenter said. Articulate. No mud. Simply glorious. Thanks for all your advice - I synthesized it into what I think is the perfect choice in this single scenario. I'm floored at the moment.

Now who knows - a black winter may appear one day lol. Cheers.
