Full sized humbucker for Tele bridge

I'm going to be putting a full sized 'bucker in my tele soon, but am having a hard time deciding what to go with. I would like it to be close to an Angus/Malcolm Young tone, so probably something close to PAF? Does it have to be a trembucker to get correct spacing?
Thanks

Just curious, have you checked the routing on your Tele? I'm under the impression that very few are routed for a humbucker in the bridge position.

I've had a Lil' '59 and a Hot Rails in my Tele ate one time or another and the Hot Rails in parallel was pretty good for that kind of thing.

Yes, it will need routing, and I am planning on using a Gotoh bridge made for 'buckers. I tried a lil'59 and didn't care for it, so I thought I'd go all the way and put a full sized HB in there. The only other thing I'm considering is the custom shop little Pearly Gates they make, which is similar to the lil'59 except with alnico 5 magnets instead of ceramics, but I can't find it for sale anywhere and there's no clips on it.

EDIT: I found out it can be ordered via email from the custom shop

Yes you'll want a trembucker. Go for the full sized Pearly Gates, although I bet a TB-5 Duncan Custom would sound good in there.

I've got a custom custom in my tele using the gotoh bridge. It is pure ear love. Its hot enough for big rock sounds but still works nicely for cleans. The leads devour children as well.

i've got a full sized 59' in the bridge of my tele along with a dimarzio twang king in the neck.
i had to wire it up with 2 volumes (no tone) due to the bucker overpowering the single coil,it wasn't a massive volume difference but now i can blend it better in the middle position.

mines not a trembucker so it doesn't line up 100% but its not far off and it sounds good so its staying

Re: Full sized humbucker for Tele bridge

if you use the Tele bridge for humbuckers it will still be different. The steel frame about the pickup and the mount make a big difference.

If you route anyway you might want to consider converting to a Strat hardtail or so.

Re: Full sized humbucker for Tele bridge

how about putting in concentric pots so you can separate vol & tone control per pickup?

Re: Full sized humbucker for Tele bridge

I wouldnt route for a full size bucker. hot stack or something should do it. little 59 works wonders.

Re: Full sized humbucker for Tele bridge

A Tele without the big, honkin' single in the bridge ain't really a tele anymore.

With that said, if I were to throw a full sized hummer in a tele, I'd use a Demon in it. Keep the twang, but add the chunk and beef of a 'bucker.

Check out El Hefe from NOFX, maybe not your kind of music but he does gets huge sounds with a single coil in his tele. Not shure what he is using in there but he covers a lot of ground. From ska clean to high gain (punk)rock and everything inbetween. And it still twangs!
