I was just wondering why you use two 4 ohm speaker outputs when playing a mesa rectifier into two 8 ohm cabs.. is it because the speaker outputs are in parallel?.. I've seen many amps (such as the Vox Valvetronix AD120VTX) which have series speaker/extension outputs

Yes, the speaker outputs on every tube amp I have seen are in parallel. There may be exceptions to that, but I haven't seen any.

They're parallel.
