FullShred with Alnico 8 magnet

The sound smooths out a little (quite a surprise, but NICE!)
There are a bit less low mids. So the bass become all the more present and sound friggin' amazing! Not much loss of EQ compared to the FS with Ceramic I had before.
Leads sound quite good on the D and G string, but maybe a little thin on the B and e. Could be due to the fact that I need to get the poles closer to the strings but I don't have the correct allen key yet :(
The pickup is still very clear. Gains output compared to A5, and it doesn't really change compared to Ceramic.
That's all I noticed so far really... It's been a long time since I had it with an A5 magnet though so I can't compare too well. But I like it better with the A8 than with the Ceramic magnet. This is a winner folks!

Ehh if i can ever be arsed :laugh2: During the holidays I will I'm sure.

Re: FullShred with Alnico 8 magnet

WOA I tried it today with the JCM800 model on the POD 2.0 with EQ and Distortion boost. I also used my SD1 as a clean boost to give a bit more beef. ****ING GREAT TONE!!! Even for leads. The FullShred sounds AMAZING guys. I'd advise it to anyone who finds the standard FS a little shy in output.

Pierre,

The tone chart for the stock Full Shred shows the EQ as 4/4/8. With the A8 in there, what do you think those numbers should be? Also, how much hotter sounding did it become? The Full Shred was originally labeled as "medium" or "moderate" output. Would you say it could be considered "hot" like a DD? Thanks.

Re: FullShred with Alnico 8 magnet

5 or 6 bass, 5 mids, 8 treble. And it's a bit more than just 'medium' output. I'd say medium high. Just under a Custom, though VERY close.

Re: FullShred with Alnico 8 magnet

I played a Les Paul the other day with a Full Shred in the bridge, it sounded freaking amazing. That is definitely a good LP bridge pickup.

Re: FullShred with Alnico 8 magnet

Its a good everything pickup IMO. It just dosent only sound good in LP's! Its too often overlooked IMO!

Re: FullShred with Alnico 8 magnet

Definitely one of my favs...I love the bridge model. I've never used the neck model, but I'm thinking about picking one up and using the combo. I just picked up a Jazz neck and paired it with the JBb and...wow. If the Shreds work that well together, they could be the perfect set for me.

Re: FullShred with Alnico 8 magnet

I am a huge fan of the Full Shred bridge but, I do not like the neck position all that much! Its kind of Blah sounding. No real personality or mojo!

Re: FullShred with Alnico 8 magnet

At the bridge it does have A LOT of mojo!
Another thing: This pickup is hotter than the DiMarzio Megadrive, with quite a lot more bass too. I use the same sounds on the POD to compare. There's definitely this kind of 'in your face' heavyness that comes from the FullShred8. It's just great: it keeps the sublety of the FullShred, but gains a lot more attitude. This is not a jack of all trade, it's just a master everywhere!

Re: FullShred with Alnico 8 magnet

... you said you had a pod in the post above though. If it has a usb just run it in to your comp that way, if not- stick a 1/8 adapter on a guitar cable and use the line in on your soundcard. You don't even need a recording program- just use ".wav recorder" or something :P or if you prefer to use a program just download one of the freebies floating around. Even if you've never done it before I don't see why it would take more than 10 or 15 minutes to make a mediocre clip. If not it's all good- I'll just have to take your word for it :)

Re: FullShred with Alnico 8 magnet

It has no USB ports, and I have no soundcard, that's a small laptop. Only thing I can do is plug it in the mic output of the PC and I tried, it just sounds like an ugly ass.

Re: FullShred with Alnico 8 magnet

Everyone should get at least an amp modeler and should make A/B clip when modding his pups! ;)

Re: FullShred with Alnico 8 magnet

Yeaaah... Unfortunately for me, as far as gear is concerned, recording is wayyyyy down the list... :( Sucks to be a student and drummer :(

You could record guitar straight in the line in (maybe buffered wit an OD Pedal)... there was a decent freeware plugin which models a JCM900....

Re: FullShred with Alnico 8 magnet

Nah, if he doesn't have a soundcard that'll sound lame too. Does it retain the same vocal qualities and such as the normal fullshred or does it do more than change the eq?
