Fulltone OCD

Can somebody give me a quick rundown for this pedal...i heard there were 3 or 4 different versions. Whats the differences between them? i'm looking for a non-tubescreamer sounding dirt box to throw into my rig and this is at the top of my list. any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Fulltone OCD

4 Versions. (Basically, V1.1, V1.2, V1.3, V1.4. For ease of writing, I'll say V1, V2, V3, V4)

V1. Was the brightest and bassiest. Like, the most extreme sounding. Not in a good way.
V2. I believe it was less bright, fuller sounding
V3. Improvement over the V2. Some of the V3s were labeled V4 inside, but weren't REALLY V4s.
V4. was a total rumor at first, but is actually totally legit. These are the latest production ones.

I own a V3 and am totally satisfied with it.

I wouldn't worry about trying to score an old one, because supposedly the new ones are the MOST amplike and tubelike. In short, there's nothing really great about the older versions, cuz the newer versions sound better than the last.

I love my OCD. Definitely not tubescreamer op-amp -ish. Very amplike. Realistically gritty. 2 modes. For the price, I think the OCD is a steal. And you can score them used for about $125.

The only downside: Don't bother to try to use it as a distortion pedal. turning the gain past noon increases the bass SO much, it just startes to flub and rumble. Under noon, it sounds great.

Re: Fulltone OCD

I have a V1 and I love it, #1079.

It is bright and bassy as RockStarNick said, but I don't think it's in a bad way. The treble and bass frequencies can be leveled and smoothed out with the tone knob, and the mids are crisp and detailed but not dominant like in a TS.

It's great for enhancing the overdrive channel of any tube amp, it imparts kind of a hi-fi detail and 3D clarity to your sound as well. I like it a lot!

Mike (XSSIVE) showed me a new BYOC kit that's out that you might like to. I'll have to look it up real quick!

Re: Fulltone OCD

I think i'll be ordering an OCD very soon. Ill be using it in front of my slightly distorted amp. Has anyone ever used an OCD and a tubescreamer on the same board? how do they sound running at the same time(with low od levels) i still love my TS but i've been looking for something different.

I too have a V1 that has seen a TON of action. I have yet to try any other version etc etc, so I have no clue what I am missing. In short, if it a'int broke, why fix it?

This pedal has worked for me thru tons of different amps in different cities, different gigs, you name it. I never found it flubby when the gain is cranked. Sure it's not a DS1, but that's not what I got it for. In fact, with a Marshall on 5 and the OCD cranked into it you get a great gain tone.

At the same time, I would mention there are some other nice pedals out there to look at, incl the Jetter Gain Stage, Saturator, Xotic BB Pre, etc etc.

Re: Fulltone OCD

V4 is the only OCD I am familiar with and I love mine. I basically keep it on at all times to flavor the signal pretty much with the gain lowered and the volume at 12 o clock. Tone to flavor.

Re: Fulltone OCD

I see you're boosting an amp. It differs from a tubescreamer in that it will not make the tone nasally, but rather keeps the fullness and adds more of the attack.

I would suggest the v4. I compared both and the v3's mids are more crowded and less transparent which isn't for everyone.
