I have one and it's a great pedal, although prefer the MXR Wylde Overdrive for pushing the front end of an amp. Don't get me wrong the OCD is great for that, but the Wylde sounds more rowdy, whereas the OCD has a cleaner sound when used to boost an amp.
But on it's own as a distortion pedal, the OCD is better. It has more gain than the Wylde, and the OCD's distortion is also fairly touch sensitive. It also works great when stacked with other pedals. I've had alot of fun stacking it with my Box Of Rock and one of my Wylde Overdrives.

yes its very good as a standalone drive into a clean amp. Most drives sound a bit lame like that. It also good used in the same way as a regular overdrive too. The eq peak is just in the right spot to cut thru a band too.

I've had one now for several months. My main goal was to use it as a distortion/overdrive for a clean amp, as it takes a helluva lot of volume to get my Traynor Reverb Master to break up. The OCD works great for this. I think Gone Shootin's assessment of the pedal is spot on.
I also used the OCD into a solid state Peavey Bandit the other day at a jam session. Sounded great!
Versatile pedal for sure & priced very fair. I run mine at 18 volts because, uh, I can. Never really did a comparison between 18 and 9 volt operation...

So many OD and distortion pedals on the market, what should a guitarist do.

I don't care for it at all...
It's got a funky impedance so it reacts differently depending on whats inline before and after it...
I'm also not a huge fan of the way it sound either.

I haven't kept up with the changes. Mine is Version 2 and, as has been stated repeatedly, it plays very well with other pedals. Compared to many other ODs I've tried it has a very flat EQ response whereas so many others are mid scooped or boosted. Also, it is not overly compressed. In fact, to my ears it doesn't sound compressed at all. The tone control is usable throughout its range. I set my volume at unity and run the gain around 9:00. Kicking it in takes me from clean to almost clean with an edge. Then when I need crunch or something with a little more flame I light up another OD in front of it. For me, that's a KOT.

I have had my v4 for a couple of years and I can tell you a couple things about it:
-if you want a marshall in a box pedal, get the Xotic SL Drive (they are exceptional)
-it sounds best with the switch down in LP mode. It's a great OD/boost, but the distortion past say 11 o'clock is a little funky.
I think most people pop the switch into HP mode (switch up) first thing, but it really sucks in HP mode. It sounds more recto-marshally but bad... If you keep the drive low and in LP mode (switch down) then it's a very usable pedal. It has a great fat girth to it... not the hairy type, but smoother and more saturated.

I love the LP mode. it's smooth, silky and doesn't colour your bypassed tone much at all. Beautiful creamy overdrive tones.
Throw that sucker in HP mode and it gets a slightly more Tube Screamer-ish voicing in the mids, and slightly higher output/gain. Bizarrely enough, even though the upper mids are more present, the quality of the gain seems to be less focused and less articulate in HP mode.
In either mode, the more you turn the gain up, the more grainy and fuzzy it gets. I don't really understand how it sounds so good at lower gain levels, but when you turn it up, it turns into something else entirely. I wouldn't really use the OCD as a dedicated distortion pedal for medium-high gain fuzz or drive tones. I pretty much leave it in LP mode with a low gain setting as a dedicated OD/boost all the time. Mine's a v4 fwiw.

I used mine as a boost because I loved the touch, feel and dynamics it had over the usual fridgid, sterile midrange blanket that TS pedals offer as boosts.
I found the OCD very low gain, and sluggish as a stand alone OD pedal. Not my thing there.
But love the build quality and capability as a warm, thick and dynamic boost.

IMO it's a fantastic overdrive pedal and goes all the way from light boost to light distortion if you dial it in right.
I had a V1 and I now have a V3. I like the V3 a little bit more. V4 is good too but V3 just felt and sounded right to me.
I used to use it as a stand-alone overdrive/boost for my amp, now I use a fulltone fat-boost for that purpose but I keep the OCD around because it just does it's "thing" so damn well.
