Fulltone TTE alternative.

So, i do not have 1K+ to spend on the real thing.

Of all the current production delays/echo units, what will get a player the closest to the TTE tone ?

Thanks to all

Re: Fulltone TTE alternative.

Approximately, what is your budget?

If you want a tape unit, I'd look for the real thing. Last I saw, a real Echoplex is well under 1K. Used TTE's I remember are in the $750-850 range.

The Strymon El Capistan is pretty darned good if you are OK with Digital. I'm using it and I have a TTE.

My budget right now is about $200.00, but might go as high as $250.00.

Thanks for the info.
Being stuck on this side of the world, i will have to buy somehting that is fairly easy to transport in a suitcase when i do buy in the US.

The Strymon products do look real good.

Re: Fulltone TTE alternative.

For $200 you can get a TC Electronic Flashback and have some change in your pocket. The tape models are very, very good. There's also a Space Echo model that I actually like more than the Echoplex models.

Thanks . . . for some reason, i've never looked into the flashback pedals.

Re: Fulltone TTE alternative.

The best tape emulation you can get in that price range (because you can't get the real thing without more money) is the Strymon El Capistan.

Re: Fulltone TTE alternative.

There is no real alternative to a tape echo in the $200-250 range...

Get a Way Huge Echo Puss and use than while you save for a real tape echo and when you do take the plunge do the right thing and get a nice clean EP-3 then have it refurbished!

Nothing can touch an Echoplex running in tip top shape, not even a TTE!!!

Re: Fulltone TTE alternative.

TTE is an odd thing....a tape echo that is way way too nice.

Yep!

I wanted to like the TTE real bad since they are easier to find then real Echoplex units plus they are all much newer and in much better shape then real Echoplexes but they just don't cut it...

A TTE sounds real good until you hear it right next to an Echoplex and after that it still sounds good but the Plex will likely stomp it in the dirt unless you want a very clean, very clear tape echo...

Re: Fulltone TTE alternative.

The tape in my TTE is 7 years old. It's not so clean sounding anymore.

I'm sure it's not but it's a different thing.

Fuller designed the TTE to be a "better" machine than an Echoplex and much like anything else...changing things is a give and take.

Some guys like the TTE better others like an Echoplex better...

MMmmmm . . . OK, point taken !

I will then keep on using the delays that i have, untill i can afford the real thing.
