Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. $$King Daddy$$

Gear Ho
The bad boy is here! There's a couple Fulltone Tube Tape Echoes on Ebay right now. This is officially declared the Holy Grail of pedals. I had no idea they'd be this expensive, but I shoulda figured. Look at what goes into these. I can now see why they cost the big bucks. This would be the crown jewel of any pedalboard.

Re: Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. $$King Daddy$$

I'll bet that sounds fantastic....it's just simply out of my league.

Re: Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. $$King Daddy$$

I'm not sure I'd want something that big and heavy on my pedalboard, but I would LOVE to have that unit as a luxury toy for fiddling with and using in a studio.
I'd bet that most owners of this Echoplex clone will be studios, producers, session players, wealthy players, and pedal enthusiasts. I get what I need out of my Line 6 Delay modeler for my pedalboard, but I know if I hear this Fulltone my wheels will start spinning up ways to aquire it. I love Fulltone stuff, and this unit is their flagship.
Just think....even $400 is a lot for a pedal. $1000 + is a real bankbreaker.

Re: Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. $$King Daddy$$

something tells me Eric Johnson got one of the first ones :)

Re: Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. $$King Daddy$$

looks like a glorified paperweight. whats the difference between echo and delay? Is it like reverb and delay togetheR?

Re: Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. $$King Daddy$$

it's really Fulltone's spin on the most well known vintage tape Echo, the Mestro Echoplex:

that's Eric Johnson's pedal board, with his mid 70's Echoplex on the left

Echoplexes were known for the best vintage echo tones, but some have suffered mechanical problems over the years, like worn tapes and other problems ... plus the old ones are just not that common

Re: Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. $$King Daddy$$

Never seen that photo before. Cool. I'm surprised he runs so much cable length between pedals.

Re: Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. $$King Daddy$$

For the heck of it, I started looking at what was out there like this, only cheaper.
The H&K Replex looks cool, but most digital knockoffs of this Fulltone unit will pale in comparison, tonally. Dang!!! I wish these things weren't so much money! I wonder if Fulltone will discontinue them at some point, making them some sort of investment, at least. Looks like such a fun toy to have!

Re: Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. $$King Daddy$$

The Fulltone sure would be a fun pice to add to my rig, but, honestly, I'm VERY happy with my Roland RE150 Space Echo and Chandler Digital Echo. The Roland has identical sounds as the Echoplexes and it is much more reliable and easily rackmountable. You can scoop up an old Space Echo for under $300 on Ebay. I'll keep my eyes on the Fulltone TTE in the used market over the next few years. Not ready to drop 1K on echo just yet.

Re: Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. $$King Daddy$$

I think that for what it is, and how it's made, $1k is a good price for this product. Fulltone has always targeted the better-healed guitar players, anyway. I've been reading about them for about a year now.

The tape cartridge is proprietary, and is supposed to be superior to the original Tape Echo ...

Every sample of the unit that I've heard has blown me away. I would have a hard time justifying the purchase because of my style of music, but I would still love to own one.

Fulltone had a contest where you could win one when they started production ... guess I didn't win. :(

In action!

Click on this post where the following text is written...

CHICK HERE for a Low-Fi Windows Media Video Clip of the TTE in action.(pardon the strat's selector-switch failure during the tune). It's Mike Fuller playing a stock late 50's Strat----> TTE--->1967 Deluxe Reverb...No Chorus or other effects, and only the $300 Canon S230 Digital Camera's built in Microphone.

Re: Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. $$King Daddy$$

A Maxon analog delay is much cheaper and sounds great. I've never tried one of these, and at those prices, I doubt I ever will.

Re: Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. $$King Daddy$$

Wow, thats really a lot of money for something that no one will be able to tell the difference. I guess people pay a lot of money for Model T cars as well. I don't understand that, either.
I'll stick with my DL4...for delay as well as loops. The Echoplex Digital Pro is also much better for long delays. EH is reissuing the 16 second delay as well. There will always be nuts who spend lots of dough on boutique, um, stuff like this, but they aren't the ones making a living playing music.

Re: Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. $$King Daddy$$

I think that what most people overlook when they see the price tag is that many, many consumers are very brand loyal. In my case, I was totally anti-stomp box, until a sound engineer friend of mine, whose opinion I really trust, basically had me salivating to at least try a Fulltone. And once I did, I was hooked!!

Now that I've invested a few $$ in Fulltone products, and have experienced the sound quality and build quality first hand, I don't think this is an outrageous price ... of course, I also live in a place that charges $12 for a sandwich, so all things are relative ...

You pretty much get what you pay for with highend gear, but it doesn't necessarily mean you can't live without it. I'd love to have a Cadillac Escalade, but it's just not in my budget.....same with toys like these.
