Fulltone Users: Overdrives

Re: Fulltone Users: Overdrives

But if I understand that whole thread correctly, he's taken elements of a TS-style circuit and elements of a Rat-style circuit and combined them into one? He may or may not be a d*ck, but that does seem more creative than just throwing both circuits into a box, and something fundamentally different than running the signal through both circuits. It would be like trying to patent a mashup of two songs, but a mashup isn't the same as listening to both songs at the same time or one right after the other.
Still, I'll stick with my beloved OD and consider throwing a distortion box before or after it.

I do like how people on YouTube are amazed by the flickering LED, though. THAT is what he should try to trademark or patent! Then all the other manufacturers would have to settle for a little clear window or something to make the clipping visible. I bet some would pay big bucks for a whole pedal made of translucent plastic that glows off/dim/bright as the clipping occurs. Surely there's an LED bright enough to make that happen? Might sound horrible, but it sure would look purty!

Re: Fulltone Users: Overdrives

I'm really not bothered or offended by people buying/using Fulltone stuff. I have a Fulltone tape tube echo and it's great. I'm just not going to buy any of the pedals because a) they don't impress me, b) I've had pedals built that to me are better than anything on the market and no matter how you slice it and c) you don't patent a concept. I'm having a good laugh imagining some shoegazer hunched over staring at the LED on his pedalboard though.

Re: Fulltone Users: Overdrives

anyone tried the 2b? seems like a cool little booster

Re: Fulltone Users: Overdrives

Also of note, whatever Fulltone you get, run it off 18V if it has the option. It does make a difference IMO.

Re: Fulltone Users: Overdrives

I have an OCD v4; it's one of my favorite overdrives ever.

Re: Fulltone Users: Overdrives

Back in Fulltone land... Grit my teeth and passed up a decent deal on a GT500 (and G&L Buckshot.) Can't accumulate stuff too quick, is my deal with myself; now regret not having them all at hand to compare. I also had second thoughts about having bought the MOSFET Fulldrive, wondering about the diff. circuits, whether the blue one is the right choice, all sorts of useless stuff.

Played around with the Fulldrive for a bit now, it's exactly what I wanted. Not gain crazy in the least; very clear, responsive/dynamic like amp distortion. Able to set the OD to a neutral/same as dry setting, so the boost can function only as a boost, for the most part.

Surprised at the switches: For one thing, I wonder if my FM switch is backwards; "Vintage" is scooped to my ears/quieter, while "CompCut" is much louder and more mid-heavy. Isn't it supposed to be the opposite? Can't decide between MOSFET/regular modes yet, think I appreciate regular when using it more as a boost, but like the harmonic edge MOSFET mode gives the highs.

Haven't tried it through my Vox; bought it for my Fender anyway. I'll have to look up how to run it in 18v, I've never done that before.

Edit: Guess I didn't realize the switch has an in-between position, toggle switches and their very poor design affordance ;)

Fulltone makes an 18V wall-wart for it. Also, any pedalboard supply brick worth getting has an 18V output on it.
