We all know theres tons of boutigue stuff out there. Question - Does Fulltone
make real-deal recreations, or are they recreations with his spin on it?

Re: Fulltone

I don't think of Fulltone stuff as replica/clone gear, most of it is very close but Mike does put his stamp on things...there is a Fulltone sound for sure IMHO.

Re: Fulltone

Hey gwif. I'm really seeing your opinions are accurate and honest. Thanx.

Thanks! Im glad someone finds my opinions helpful.

The Fulltone stuff gets a bad rap on the internet in several places mostly because it seems that Mike can be a bit if a jerk from time to time but that doesn't change the fact that he makes great pedals!

Most Fulltone pedals are based on some other pedal from the past...

69=Germanium Fuzz Face
70=Silicon Fuzz Face
Deja Vibe=Univibe
Octa Fuzz=Octavia
Ultimate Octave=Foxx Tone machine
TTE=EP2
Soulbender=MK III Tonebender
Clyde=Vox Wah

You get the idea but like I said they are all changed just a bit to be a little more like Mike would prefer as a player. First, most of these pedals can't be cloned 100% simply due to the lack of correct parts but the other thing to kepe in mind is that Mike owns several examples of each pedal he copies so a 100% replica is not really needed.

Most of what Mike does is something he personally sees as an upgrade or improvement. One thing is for sure, it is very well made stuff and as a general rule they don't disappoint.

Re: Fulltone

I think with a lot of the big-name boutique guys out there (e.g., Fulltone, Analog Man, Keeley), a good number of their products strive to recreate vintage effects, but often with better parts, less noise, and perhaps a few enhancements or added features.

I'm more familiar with Analog Man than the other two, and I can say their (i.e., Mike Piera's) effects are just awesome. I think Christian would agree. Oh, the customer service is top-notch too.

Re: Fulltone

I own several Fulltone pedals (e.g., OCD, Fulldrive 2, FB-2, GT-500 {best of the Fulltone overdrive bunch}, 69 and 70) and while they have capability of providing fairly nice tones modification, they are as RID states "Everyman's sound".

I use different pedals and switched back to a mix of pedals made by Carl Martin, Fulltone, Keeley, Visual Sound, Maxon, RCM Teese, and Univibe - using a pedal board setup. Other pedals are in the pedal junk draw, too many to count.

Current setup is Guitar >>> Lehle Dual A/B Switcher >>>
1) Carl Martin Compressor >>> Mu-Tron volume pedal >>> RCM3 >>> Carl Martin Plexitone >>> Carl Martin Red Repeat >>> Holland - Little Jimi Amp.
2) Keeley 4 knob Compressor >>> 'No brand name, volume pedal >>> Carl Martin Z Wah >>> Fulldrive 2 (Or Visual Sound Route 66, depend how I feel) >>> Stereo Dunlop Univibe (3 on stereo out) >>> Maxon AD-900 >>> JTM-45 bluesbreaker clone
3) Fender Bassman driving a Fender Vibratone cabinet running on slow speed and miked to PA

Oh by the way The dude who did the fire....
The KOT is one sweet dual drive;)
Never liked Fulltones stuff from day one....it has that strange everymans sound I do not dig...

Did you get to try a KoT?????

Isn't it just killer...I hate to sound like a fan boy but ****, that is a great box!

Re: Fulltone

As for the Fulltone stuff in a general sense, I don't care for it...just kind of blah for me but I won't argue thats it's well made and a lot of players do very well with it...it's just not for me.

Thats right! Mike does great work and I really dig his stuff...like Mike Fuller I think Mike Piera's goal is to take vintage effects and build them to be more useable and last longer with less (or no) big issues I guess the biggest differences are that Mike Fuller sells so many pedals that for him to source NOS parts, test them, match them and then use them in his pedals would take far too long and the other thing is that I tend to hear things a lot like mike Piera does.

Re: Fulltone

I'm not interested in much from Fulltone, but I do want one of those Tube Tape Echo units. OMG.

Save you're money and hunt down a 70's EP-3...I wouldn't bother wiht a TTE...they cost too much to begin with plus lately several guys I know of are having issues with theirs...no thanks! I happen to think that the EP-3 sounds better anyway, and before I get blasted...yes, I did do an A/B head to head with my EP-3 and a brand new TTE...

How much did you get yours for, Christian (if you don't mind me asking)?

I didn't know about people having problems now with the TTE. What's happening with them?

I gotta be honest, I don't remember what I paid for mine but I am sure that it was less than they are going for now but I still think there are some good deals to be had on EP-3's

On the subject of TTE issues check out some recent threads on TGP...there are a few there and I know 2 guys local to me that have had theirs simply stop working...

Just know going in that a tape echo requires as much maintence as a tube amp...they are not just simply a plug and play type of unit...they have to be cleaned, tapes replaced, they need cap jobs every now and then...I admit that they are HUGE pain in the back side but to me the trade off is worth everybit of crap you gotta deal with.

I don't have a problem dealing with the maintenance of a tape unit. I'd only use it at home or for studio work. I just don't see myself gigging with an expensive and temperamental unit like that.

I hear ya...truth is I do gig with mine! I just love it but again, it ain't for everybody. Another truth about tape echo is that a lot of guy think they they are the ticket for them but in reality they want an analog delay pedal or something else. I suggest trying before you buy for sure...there are som many great sounding delays out there these days, digital pedals, analog voiced digital pedals, rack echo units, real analog pedals, Line 6 style modeling echo units, etc...another tape option is the HiWatt Custom Tape echo...those are mega cool!

Luckily (or unluckily) for me, I'm not in a financial position to be hunting any such thing down at this time.
