Funk pedals & stompboxes?

Re: Funk pedals & stompboxes?

I would prefer some envelope filter or auto-wah over a rocker wah for the tone and the parameters.

I'd say the Vox wah sound is vintage funk tone. At least one part of it, so I suppose it's a matter of preference?

if you go for phaser GET THE MOOGERFOOGER PHASER! i don't have it but played thru it once and have been jonesing for it ever since. expensive but heavenly!

Re: Funk pedals & stompboxes?

I've been playing thru my Digitech Bass synth wah with the envelope filter mode and i prefer manual wah. So the Vox is the way to go? Stock or modded?

Re: Funk pedals & stompboxes?

When it comes to the difference between stock and modified pedals, I always say to start with stock. If you are satisfied with the tone, there is no resaon to get modifications. If you have heard the difference, the decision should be based on sound alone.

I don't have the DigiTech bass Synth Wah, but I have a few different auto wahs, and when I attemp funk styles, I usually use:
amp < OD <auto wah < compressor < guitar
I have an auto wah with a timed sweep which can be dialed in like modulation. I usually reserve my CryBaby for less dramatic, techno-like tone changes while playing.

I will add that the Fulltone FD2 is very good for Funk and R&B bands

The DOD FX35 envelope filter is shockingly cheap and has a nice pimp strut to it. I have always liked the EH stuff, but some of it is rather large and clunky.

Among Phasers I do like the idea of Univibe for that Isley Bros flavor!
Also an underrated idea is an Octavia for funk. Gives you some dirty synth like tones.

Look to Voodoo Labs for these 2 items.
