Funny That My Vox Wah Went South

Guess my modded Vox 847 got either very mad or very jealous...I used my recently bought and modded Thomas organ with my band the other night..Well yesterday I was wanking through the Vox,when it decided to go to half volume on me when engaged...Yesterday I spent what I'd call alot of time figuring out what happened? I've worked on and modded alot of wahs, but have yet to get a handle on my own wah problem...I Know something on the pcb took a crap,as I've substituted with another 847 board and everything works fine...I've narrowed it down to either a problem with the inductor,or Q2(BC109) took a crap...I've used this wah pretty much non-stop since 93 when it came out..Hopefully today I'll have her up and running again...

I can't say enough about how happy I am with my early Crybaby wah and now I'm glad I have that backup wah...Thanks to BungalowBill for turning me on to another early CB! I sold the other one I had a few years ago,but this ones a keeper!

In between keeping the wife (Mom) happy....:bigthumb:

Re: Funny That My Vox Wah Went South

I baked my CB. Had this whacked idea to replace the inductor with a pickup

Hey, it's a magnetic core with a copper wrap, right? Right?

Didn't work out, so I put the inductor back in. Now it's dead in the water. Reversed the cables, nothing works. Cuts off when activated. Then again, there was also a loose battery ground wire from all the futzing with the board. Might solder all the wires straight to the pins and ditch the Molex connector.

If it's still dead, Geo has a troubleshooting guide that says what usually goes out when you get no effect/sound.

However, I did find two places to jump a pickup coil (kinda like my other thread with the capacitor) and get a radical signal boost, but not quite distorted. Kinda fuzzy.

Repaired and hardwired a connection on the board that leads over to Q1 and replaced Q1 also...All fixed....I Love the BC109s and I look for certain values before putting them into my wahs,as I Know what gives me the "quack" and vocal character I Like...I took the "03" Stack Of Dimes inductor out and went with the 'Whipple" inductor in this wah also...I Like these inductors alot.

I was thinking about a whipple for mine....it should better than the TDK....even though my wah is killer as is.
