Fuzz and Wah placement/best fuzz to use with wah?

Re: Fuzz and Wah placement/best fuzz to use with wah?

Nothing in front of the fuzz, hottest pups thru it are Tex-Mex tele pups, everything else is lower output. That's why I'm asking, I've done everything you're "supposed" to do and I can't get a sound that I'm searching for. I'm planning on building a whole new circuit.

Hmmm, yeah, I honestly don't know what to tell you. It "should" work or at least get you pretty darn close as I think I know the tones your after.

I've always heard those Hendrix Fuzz Faces (new one is an exception) are rather poor, both in terms of sound and also batch variations. You know how some people talk about getting a really great copy of something ? Well maybe you've gotten a really bad copy.

I've you've got the know how to try to get some new chips, test them etc it would be worth a shot though you might want to consider simply buying a ready made unit, theres tons out there

MJM has a great fuzz in both ge and si. Analogman makes some great fuzzes as well though a little pricer. The crucible line is great bang for the buck at $129 or so I belive, they are a little hot and gainy though, might not be your thing.

The analogman NTK fuzz sure sounds sweet and will have the cleanup your after.

I personally really like the Roger Mayer Axis fuzz, its very aggressive and biting, but cleans up to sound a bit like an OD pedal. Its definatly an Si fuzz but it nails the live Hendrix tones

Kevin Randall has a new one, "the fuzz" thats supposed to be the BOG ear tones as well, but its also a NPN PNP hybrid fuzz and I'm guessing its probably similar to the Axis.

Check all those out

Re: Fuzz and Wah placement/best fuzz to use with wah?

Yeah, I'm thinking an Axis fuzz could be what I'm after, I love the tone on "Bold As Love." I just bought the fuzz because I've tried ODs & distortions and never been satisfied. Fuzz turned out to be exactly what I'm after! My problem is I just don't want to buy a fuzz online that I haven't had time to mess around with, but I guess I might have to. I've looked at Analogman and Roger Mayer, and they look good, I just want to try before I buy.

EDIT: What about the Roger Mayer Voodoo Axe Fuzz? Anyone tried that?

It's tough to try before you buy on things like that because most places don't stock them...

Based on what you are saying so far Im gonna go out and say this...get an Axis Fuzz! I suggested the same thing to millsart a while back and he got one and loves it. I had one and sold it when I was getting up cash to buy my 62 Fender Deluxe...I wish I had kept it though it is a killer high(ish) gain fuzz that will do all the neat tricks you are asking about...

Re: Fuzz and Wah placement/best fuzz to use with wah?

There's a Voodoo Axe Fuzz on the boards, which is a axis fuzz with an added fatness control, I might try that out.

EDIT: It's also a buffered pedal, so would the TU-2 into a buffered fuzz still mess with it?

Re: Fuzz and Wah placement/best fuzz to use with wah?

I know nothing about the VooDoo Axe but I can tell you that running a buffered bypass pedalinto any fuzz or transister based boost pedal will give you that nasty high end screach I was talking about.

Best bet is to either get a true bypass tuner (IMO there are no good ones on the market but it is an option) get a bypass loop box for your tuner (best bet IMO but costs more money and takes up more space) or simply put your tuner AFTER your fuzz in the chain...no biggie, quick easy fix!

Re: Fuzz and Wah placement/best fuzz to use with wah?

I have so experience with this, so excuse my incompetence, but doesn't a looper just add or take out the tuner? Wouldn't an A/B box be better than? Also, with the fuzz on, does it mess with the tuning?
