Fuzz Circuits/Transistors

I recently got my first fuzz pedal, and it is exactly what I am looking for in terms of a gain device, but I was wondering if someone could give me a rundown of the most common transistors and their sounds.

Also, I remember coming across a site a while back where you could buy the pre-wired circuit board and stick it in the fuzz, anybody know what site this is?

Re: Fuzz Circuits/Transistors

www.analogman.com plenty of info about fuzzfaces and the differences between transistors etc

It would take entirely too long to write it all up here. A quick Google search will bring up literally pages upon pages of info.

Re: Fuzz Circuits/Transistors

check out diystompboxes.com

there is a lot more info over there on that forum and on the site in general.

Re: Fuzz Circuits/Transistors

There are loads of transistors that got used and still get used in fuzz boxes...asking for a quick rundown is asking for a lot of info...best bet is to juts do some internet research...and do a lot of it.

Re: Fuzz Circuits/Transistors

Thanks, I've done some research, and analogman helped a bit, but was just looking for a basic explanation of the tones/examples of the most common 3-5 transistors.

Re: Fuzz Circuits/Transistors

Here's another great source, in easy-to-read form, for this type of info. Sometimes its hard to link to his internal pages, so click on "Lab Notebook" on the left, and look through those articles.

http://www.muzique.com/index.html

Especially take note of: "More Saturation Controls", "More Diode Clipping", "LED noise", "Boosters, Gain and Distortion", and "The sound of distortion".

Hell . . . read 'em all. ;)

In simple summary, its mostly the voltage "drop" point of devices that effect their sound rather than part #.

Re: Fuzz Circuits/Transistors

Yeah, Jack Orman's site, (Muzique), and RunoffGroove are two of my favorite sites. I bought his CD too. (Although, it has some annoyances in it that I won't go into.)
