Fuzz help (Maestro Fuzz, Ampeg Scrambler, Foxx)

What recordings were made using....

A. Maestro Fuzz

B. Ampeg Scrambler

C. Foxx Tone Machine


I tried to get into fuzz a few years ago and even though I thought it was a cool sound I couldn't get into as much. Lately I have been playing with some fuzzes and kinda digging the way they fit into the style I evolved into over the past couple years. Kinda looking at these 3.

Have you tried any nuff type fuzzes? I've played a few and I think they might be a great match for your playing style, especially the Basic Audio offerings.

I think I sold you the Basic Audio Spooky Tooth yes?

That was a great pedal.

I have had a couple good muffs, Green Russian Muff, Black Russian Muff and a late 70s USA one. I guess I want something a little more versatile this time around.

The Scrambler has a ring modulator activated by an envelope filter type setup...the harder you play and the further you turn up the fuzz, the more pronounced the ring mod effect. VERY spacy pedal, which sounds nothing like the fuzz units you might be thinking of...the guitarist for the band Cactus, Jim McCarty, used one on many of their recordings.

This will give you an idea of it's sound, especially around the 2:20 mark.

No, but I've had a Scarab Deluxe and a Foxey Lady, and I've got a custom being built at the moment.

I'd look into some of the different variants, especially tht Tri/Ram muff, but really any with a mid control. It makes the muff so much more versatile. Plus, with the tri/ram, you get basically two muffs in a single box.
