Fuzz is a sickness, I swear to you

So I ordered a fuzz on Monday - the Earthbound Audio Supercollider.

I've been waiting for a Skinpimp MKIII for a few months now, and I decided against spending $425 on a single pedal  Even though I have a Foxey Lady clone (which is in the Big Muff family like the Supercollider) I found myself wanting another muff type sound for my board. And this thing looks ridiculously awesome.

But then I watched a couple video demos of this pedal, which reminded me why I wanted a Tonebender style fuzz in the first place...

Note - that last demo video may be one of the coolest I've ever seen. And is it me, or is the first woman dancing in the beginning like super ****ing hot or what?

Anyway - I ordered a Scarab Deluxe a few minutes ago :) Prymaxe Vintage was having a 4th of July sale, so I got a decent deal on it. They should both be here Friday, and I'll have some time to test them out before my gig on Saturday. I'll probably end up sending the Supercollider back, as the Scarab Deluxe is more my style... or maybe I'll keep them both :smokin:

Seriously though, fuzz is an illness. The more I play the fuzzes I have, the more I want different kinds of fuzzes. I want a Buzzaround clone; a Tri, Ram, and Civil War muff, a SI fuzz face, a Fuzz Factory... it never stops.

That first video made me want to kick puppies. With steel toe boots.

Yup. And the new version that Earthbound is putting out now has a clipping toggle switch that lets you select between SI and LED diodes. I think it's not a bad deal for $175. Plus, you can get it from Prymaxe for 15% off until tomorrow. For $150, it's a damn good deal.

I think I'm just going to stick with a BYOC Rams head clone.

. . . i know what you mean man !!!

And i am sooo happy that i am sooo sick with the fuzz-flu !

Re: Fuzz is a sickness, I swear to you

look up codtone russian bikini master......I kid you not thats its name.

Germainium fuzz and rangemaster in one pedal.

Re: Fuzz is a sickness, I swear to you

Wow, sounds great! Enjoy! And man let me tell you, fuzz seriously IS a sickness haha. I had a few fuzzes in the past (Keeley Fuzz Head, Fulltone Ultimate Octave) and I could never get them to sound quite right and sold them. Then I bought a RAT clone (not even really a fuzz, but fuzz-y distortion) and got it dialed in nice and now, fuzz is the only sound I think about! Been playing through a friend's Fulltone 70 and that's definitely next on my list - in addition to some sort of germanium fuzz and jimi-ish octafuzz. *sigh* :D

Re: Fuzz is a sickness, I swear to you

I'm wondering if the name is related to the actual supercollider or if it's related to the Cavity record of the same name.

Re: Fuzz is a sickness, I swear to you

I still haven't tried out the algal bloom, but I do have my stuff now. I think you've gone through 5 since I bought it, lol

Haha probably.

I think what I'll end up doing is switching the Supercollider for a Basic Audio Tri/Ram muff. I'll keep the Scarab on my board, and switch the Foxey Lady out for the Tri/Ram when I feel like it.

Or maybe I'll end up loving the Supercollider. Who knows.

The '70 is a good one. I've had mine for 10 years. Its pretty dark sounding for a fuzz.

I'm migrating to an old MJM London fuzz and and a hartman 8Va. I've got a Captain Coconut, but I've found the fuzz harsh and needs 9V AC. The vibe is beyond excellent.

The trick for me is to use an overdrive pedal after the fuzz. I'm using a Suhr Shiba drive, not really for the drive, but to fatten things up a little and provide a little compression.

. . . amen !

I LOVE my Pharoah :firedevil

Re: Fuzz is a sickness, I swear to you

+1 on the Pharaoh. I got mine the other day and it's THE sound I've been trying to get with fuzz. I avoided that 'muff' style of fuzz (even though the pharaoh is kinda supposidly un muff like as it's so tweaked) for so long because I wanted to like Fuzz Faces. I still do like a fuzz face, but the pharaoh works much better with my humbuckers and cuts better with my rig and the palm mutes are so cool.

Not to mention, the Pharaoh works so well for lower gain tones. I plugged into the low input on my Marshall and dialed in a great raspy bluesy tone. Slammed it with my fulldrive for a sick lead tone and I played til 3 in the morning. I get why people stack pedals now! Not to mention the pedal just looks awesome haha!

Congrats Agile... I live vicariously through your fuzz collecting lately!
