Fuzzbox... hit me up with ideas

Still playing straight and clean into my amp. I want some fuzz. I want to see what you guys would recommend. I have my own ideas, but a second (and so on) opinion is always appreciated. Some rules:
ding
- must be $150 or less (preferably less than the limit)
- can't be too 'modern' sounding
- must have respectable quality (like, I don't want something that sounds great but only works 1/2 the time)

That's pretty much the only guidelines. Hit me up with some ideas, people, I'd like to see what you've got to say. As you may know, I play '60/'70s hard rock style stuff w/ a Gibson SG and into a Fender Blues Jr amp.

I bought a Electroharmonix Big Muff Pi a few weeks ago. It nails the vintage vibe after a little bit of messing around with it, and you still get good versitility because of the tone and sustain controle on the box.

It's worth a try.

Re: Fuzzbox... hit me up with ideas

Have you tried the Ducan Tweak Fuzz? Also, the BYOC is a great Fuzz Face clone, you can assemble it yourself or purchase a finished version. A company called Euthymia has three fuzzes, a Si FF, a Ge FF and the ICBM, a late 70's Big Muff, I only have the ICBM, but all three sound great.

The Tonefactor Huckleberry is a cross between the Fuzz Face and the Big Muff, it uses the FF clipping and gain with the Muff's tone stack.

MI Audio has a fey cool fuzzes, the GI for a little more modern fuzz and the Neo fuzz for a little more vintage fuzz. Also the Subdecay Flying Tomato fuzz is nice, I'd lke to try one...

Then you've got Tonebender clones, Fulltone Soulbender, Prescription Electronics Yardbox, MJM Britbender amongst others.

Grab a Tonefactor Huckleberry....excellent fuzz :bigok:

HBE UFO is a good one....

I have an AnalogMan Sunlion & LOVE IT, but it's pricey.

Grab a Huck & you'll love it :beerchug:

Anything Analogman is pricey, but worth it. ;) The Pepermint Fuzz is a cool take on the more raunchy fuzzes of the 60's, both the Si and Ge Sun Faces are THE definative Fuzz Face clones in my book and the Sun Lion is even cooler. :)

Don't know the U.S prices, but if you want a really clear and articulate sounding pedal, get a Keeley Fuzz head... it's a cross between a Fuzz and a drive IMO. Great build quality too and true bypass!

I've looked at those and I must say I'm impressed. It's a bit out of my price range but if push came to shove I could probably spare the extra cash for it... good recommendation.

Thanks... I think it's a great pedal for classic rock though it depends how hard you want to go. I use mine for a Bad Co type through to some Zep... but for heavier sounds I use an M.I Audio Crunchbox... for the price this pedal is superb. I've also heard that Barber pedals are the dogs danglies too... I just sold my Keeley comp to get a Barber Tonepress! Sorry, I digress, back on topic. The Fuzz head is great and it does have some adjustable pots inside to increase/ decrease dirt and mod the overall tone... when you open it up it's a refreshing change to such quality, particularly in a pedal!

I've looked at them quite a bit (sadly, only on the web) and I gotta agree, the craftsmanship looks great.

This is one of my top choices right now. I'm also interested in the Fulltone stuff, but I guess the '69 is out-of-production as of a few months ago... used prices don't seem bad though.

Re: Fuzzbox... hit me up with ideas

I don't know the US prices of these pedals, but here are 2 suggestions for you:

EMMA Electronics ReezaFRATzitz - 1 of the most natural sounding OD/Distortion/Fuzz pedals I've ever used

Home Brew Electronics UFO - Great sounding fuzz with footswitchable octavle doubler effect (think Purple Haze solo). I'm still tweaking it to sound as good with a LP as it does with a Strat, but I'm confident in it's abilities :)

Re: Fuzzbox... hit me up with ideas

Take a look at Aramat Effects. They have both the Mojo Fuzz and the Soul Patch. Both are great fuzzes depending on what you are looking for. I've used quite a few of the above-mentioned fuzzes, and Aramat's are right up there IMO. Ask around some of the boards and you can likely get a used one for a reasonable amount (...but I'm not selling mine :1:).
