FX pedal info....

Cat In The Hatministrator
I went into work today to find that somebody had dropped off some FX pedals to me. An Ibanez GE 9 graphic EQ, a DOD FX80 compressor and an Elephant SDM-1 Super Delay. Does anybody have any info about the Elephant pedal? It looks like a Boss pedal and is made in Taiwan. It has 3 knobs labelled Repeat Rate, Echo and Intensity, with Max and Min markers on each of those. I haven't had chance to plug it in yet to see if it is any good. I'll put pics up soon. Any ideas?

Re: FX pedal info....

If it really does look like a Boss pedal, then inquire over here http://www.bossarea.com/ about the delay. These guys know way more about Boss pedals than is healthy for anybody.

With the controls you've described, I wonder if it's a re-branded DM-2 analog delay. If it is, I hate you.

Why can't people drop free stomp boxes on MY desk?

Re: FX pedal info....

It's certainly the same sort of layout. The knobs are all the same size and more like the more modern, smaller boss knobs.

Here's a pic:

Re: FX pedal info....

Well, they went to the smaller knobs when production moved from Japan to.....

Taiwan.

That's a DM-2 if I ever saw one. It's even the same color. I loved the DM-2 I had, way more than the digital delays that replaced it after it was stolen in what.... 1984? These days, DM-2's are stupid expensive. I wish Boss would make a lo-fi digital clone of a DM-2 rather than the 4-knob uber-wonder-delays they crank out these days.

Re: FX pedal info....

I'm looking forward to giving these pedals a workout this weekend. I've been planning for my own pedalboard for a while, but I'm missing a delay. This just might do the job. There might be room for the EQ too!!

I've determined you get too many free pedals :)

Re: FX pedal info....

Open up the delay to see what chips are in it. That will solve everything. If they are Panasonic BBD's, then it's a DM-* clone. If not, it's Behringer-esque.

I hope for you sake it is a sweet analog delay... :) I love my Boss DM-3.

Re: FX pedal info....

Also, post it in the Harmony Central Effects Forum, there's a dude there that's owned every Japanese made delay ever. ;)

Re: FX pedal info....

Which chip am I looking for? None appear to be Panasonic, but there is a NEC chip as IC2.

Re: FX pedal info....

Found more info. It does appear to be a DM-2 clone, as it has a BBD MN3205 chip and a MN3102 clock driver.

Re: FX pedal info....

Stevie, if you want take some pics of the circuit board and I'll see what I can come up with. I'd recommend not posting on boss area so we can keep this "our little secret", at least until most of us who are killing for an analog delay (like myself) can snag one up somehow! :) Just kidding.

Just taking a pic now.

If there's a particular area you want another pic of, let me know.

Yep mucho analouge for sure:)
Sounds like a DM-2 I bet!
Hehe cool things Stevie!
Got about 300ms of delay in that MN3205 chip...well the 150ms are probally grainy and strange, but it should be relativly chirpfree!
Standart 571 Compander.
And a 3102 clock chip...
And it must be at least 20 years old that thing:)

Re: FX pedal info....

I'm wondering whether it was a Boss pre-production tester from the Taiwan factory? The only label on the bottom is white, with black writing stating: Serial Number 48644, and Taiwan. It doesn't have the Boss label.
