G.A.S for a friend

bwahahahaha

so a friend of mine was over at my place the other day.

and i gave him some SERIOUS gas for an all tube head.

so he asked me, which ones are worth the money.

preferably 50W heads (he'll probably buy used) in the vein of my laney..

so, GH50, jcm900 (which one.. erik, i'm looking in your direction) jcm800 (2205 is the model right?), AOR (i think the 30W aor will suffice for him, as that amp is loud as ****!)

any others?

Re: G.A.S for a friend

he's a bedroom player.. hasnt played a gig in his life and i doubt he plays guitar a whole lot at home either, so even 15w would be too much for him.. but he wants a big ol' head, but so he can crank it just a little...

it's his money, i'll just say what's worth it

Re: G.A.S for a friend

In the JCM900 line, the MkIII 2500 or SL-X 2500. Both are great amps and can be had for the cheap. Hit my site for more info on the MkIII's. IMO, they are vastly underrated.

The 4500 is the Dual Reverb but is not so good sounding with 5881's. If an early 90's one is found loaded with EL34's, then it'd be worth listening to. Anything later with the 5881's, meh, not worth it unless he wants to pay extra to have it rebiased to accept EL34's.

Re: G.A.S for a friend

That's fine too, but it's 100 watts. The 2500 is the same thing, same preamp, just a 50 watt power amp.

yea, figured that one out.

was reading your page for a while. nice bit of info.

Thanks. Feel free to show that to him as well. I've actually had many emails from owners of the MkIII amps just saying "Hi" and thanks for making the page because like me, they couldn't find a comprehensive page on them that had more detail other than when they were made.

Re: G.A.S for a friend

i did... but it's hard explaining to him even in slovene... he doesnt know wtf any of the terms mean, so i can go on and on about it, till i'm blue in the face.

it would help if i knew WHAT the translations were, but i never bothered, since the usual folks i've been talking to, that know gear talk understood the english terms...

so, he's like what does this mean, what does that mean, etc etc, on and on, till i'm screaming just buy they ****ing thing already lol
