G&L Asat Classic and Tele pickguards??

Re: G&L Asat Classic and Tele pickguards??

I'm pretty sure they aren't interchangeable, probably due to both companies sharing the overall look. Even if they look like they'll line up, it's usually the neck pocket that's off......and maybe the holes too.

In my experience, even the necks aren't interchangeable.

Chandler has templates for all the G&L's, so start there.

Yeah G&ls necks go flat up to the 22nd fret. Fenders have an extended fretboard that goes over the pickguard a bit. That alone tells me theres a good chance there will be issues. I believe G&L sells replacement ones though.

Are they the same fit?

Can someone measure up please and maybe post a pic.

Cheers, Will

Fender pickguards won't fit an ASAT. And as far as I know they're also not interchangeable between US and Tribute ASATs.

Also any pickup that will fit into a Tele will work in an ASAT Classic, but not the other way round as G&L MFD pickups are taller than alnico style Tele pickups. In other words a Tele may need routing before an MFD pickup will fit.

As you can see in SPG's photograph, the ASAT 'guard is narrower in the upper bout, has one corner rounded off and the control plate is set further up the body towards the neck.

It might be possible to cut down a Telecaster 'guard to ASAT dimensions but the screw holes will not line up. If you are going to have to put that much work in to modify a 'guard, you might as well make one from scratch.
