G&L Doheny

How did I miss this?!

When one with a maple/block neck and pastel finish of some sort, I'm in. Dual Fulcrum or Saddle-Lock.

Oh my what a beauty. The saddle lock bridge should provide for the much needed sustain jazzmasters lack. I'm not much into tremolos so I would get the fixed bridge.

Re: G&L Doheny

The site shows it's a US model so that's a nice feature. It doesn't say if it has 1M pots like good jazzmasters have.

I have a G&L P90 that is less than stellar. Hopefully those pickups are good. If not the antiquity 2 jazzmaster set is amazing.

Re: G&L Doheny

The pickups appear to be a different animal vs. a regular Jazzmaster; construction more akin to MFDs.

Re: G&L Doheny

If you like vibratos, the Dual Fulcrum is great...plenty of sustain. The pickups are MFDs...you won't need 1meg pots, for sure.

They are gorgeous guitars. And G&L offers many so many colors, neck profiles, and radius options...you're basically ordering a custom guitar.

So this model is a take on the jazzmaster look but without that signature jazzmaster tone.

Re: G&L Doheny

My take: I have two "real" Jazzmasters when I want that tone and feel. I'm more interested in what G&L brings to the table... And if you happen to not like the less traditional pickups, looks like standard ones will fit as replacement.

Re: G&L Doheny

Cool to know standard jazzy pickups would fit in there. If you get it keep us posted with a review.

Re: G&L Doheny

I grabbed one. Tremolo bridge 2 Point fulcrum design many of us are familiar with on other G&L. I have an ASAT special with the MFD’s in it. These fogeny MFD’s sound different. Rather amazing. Especially when you roll down the guitar vol pot a bit.

The global treb and bass pot design getsbyou into Jazzmaster territory but without that terrible old bridge.

A heavy guitar for sure. One of the very best non customer shop production guitars I’ve played.

Re: G&L Doheny

Congrats. That's a beauty. I had forgot that these have block inlays.

To me, the really cool thing about these guitars is the MFD pickups made in the Jazzmaster form. I probably won't ever be buying a Doheny, as I like all the things that many people hate about Jazzmasters and Jaguars – the electronics and the vibrato/bridge. But I very well could want to try those pickups in a Fender Jazzmaster or a JM build. MFDs are awesome pickups, and this opens up one more application for them.

Re: G&L Doheny

On further study... I do still want one, because it's basically a better looking, more ergonomic ASAT. I hear the pickups are very close to jumbo MFDs. If I bought a new guitar right now it would be a Doheny.

I mentioned above I already have a couple Jazzmasters when I need that sound; I really do like the stock Jaguar/Jazzmaster bridge as well, probably more than a Strat style bridge. I find it very difficult to get used to the low profile and cramped placement of the trem boss on a Strat bridge, and it's less easy to do subtle warbles with. The Jaguar bridge/trem are comfortable, work well and have a unique sound. The DFV on the G&L is at least typically a bit higher than a regular Strat bridge, but I would get my Doheny hardtail.

Re: G&L Doheny

Go play one at a shop if you get a chance. You'll buy it though. I like both bridges tbh, but the trem bar was one of the things that won me over. My only other trem bridge is a strat.
