Re: G&L Import strat questions.....
I haven't seen under the guards of the Indonesian ones, but all of the Legacys I've opened up or seen for sale on E-Bay – U.S. or Chinese – have had swimming pool routes.
The bridges and pickups on the mainland Asian ones were the same as the U.S. models, but I have heard that there were possibly some changes with the move to Indonesia. I'm not sure what the scoop is for sure on the bridges, but the pickups of Tribute Legacys are still Fullerton-made.
I just got an Indonesian HH in today for a setup. I would have to say the electronics and hardware are crap and should be replaced. BUT- the POS played great! The nut slots were cut too deep for my taste and the poly-glop finish might not make that economical to replace. A great playing git for 400 bux. With the proper up grades def a keeper. It is a very nice looking git for the bux. I think it's an Ascari..

I don't get the comments on the Ascari. The stock bridges and tailpieces on Ascaris are Tone Pros. The pickups are the same pickups that used to come in several U.S.A. G&Ls before they recently started using Duncans almost exclusively. Neck pickup is Alnico V, 42 gauge, 5500 turns, 8.5K. Bridge pickup is A5, 43 gauge, 6800 turns, 13K. The finish is poly (as are U.S.A. G&L finishes), but hardly "gloop." Tributes have some of the nicest finish work coming out of overseas factories. Mine is literally flawless in terms of blemishes and level/polish, and not thick. The tuners work fine, though they aren't high quality. I'd probably replace them. The pots and switch I might replace in time, but only if issues arose. The fret and nut work range from perfect to so-so IME. But
nothing on any Tribute I've played has been anywhere close to being"crap." They're easily some of the nicest non-MIJ imports ever made.
