They're great pups for sure. They aren't as good as the Wagners I put in, but they gave a great vintage tone that handles distortion well. They were a little too "focused" for my taste, they didn't breath as much as I like my pups to, so that's why I switched them out. They definitely sing both clean and distorted and look pretty cool. Keep in mind that the MFD pups are bigger in size than a typical strat single coil.

G&L's passive treble control is a typical tone control. I copied the bass cut from G&L's schematics in one of my Strats and love it. For me, it's great to be able to crank the bass up a bit on the amp, then roll it back on the guitar until I want to add some thump on the fly.

I've got myself a G&L ASAT Special with the larger, rectangular MFD pups in. I think the ones on the S-500 tribute are the regular strat size, but they're also made with a ceramic bar magnet instead of alnico pole pieces. They'll probably sound brighter with a bit more output than your typical strat-style pickups. They're probably wax potted, too, so they're less sesceptible to feedback, which, if you're a guy like me, can be a bit of a bummer sometimes.
My bigger MFDs in my ASAT sound like a Tele with some real balls. Brighter and more bottom end, and louder. Very sweet.

PTB is the best idea I, personally, have ever heard. It's going in my white Strat once i get the parts for it, and my friend's soldering iron back.
It just made sense to me. My amps controls are Volume, Bass and Treble. If my guitar's controls are the same, i can crank my amp and fine-tune with my guitar and get tons of tones
