G&L Rampage wiring/pots

Degradation Trip

New member
Hi, I recently (and finally) managed to pick up a G&L Rampage (tribute series made in china). The stock pickup actually sounds pretty good but I thought I may as well put in a JB (TB-4) since I want to replicate Jerry's guitar. While I'm at it I may as well change out the pots and wiring since they're probably not the best quality. I haven't actually done this before but I figured since it's about as simple guitar you can get it'd be a good one to learn on.

Basically I don't know what sort of pots, wiring I need to purchase for this and whether I should maybe go for a push/pull put to add an extra option of sound for the guitar (I guess tone?).

Re: G&L Rampage wiring/pots

You may have to take a peek inside to see what is there, first, (or look up detailed specs) so you can know if you are rplacing the parts with the correct values. The pots and electronics themselves my not be of terrible quality, and you /maymay not notice an improvement in sound (certainly one in durability) but upgrading them. Take a pic of what you have, and maybe we can source the correct parts you need.
Wiring isn't difficult (at least most of it isn't), and something every electric guitarist should know at least the basics of. Sounds like a great guitar to learn on.

I've never (in over 50 years of playing) noticed a difference in tone quality with upgrading pots. Reliability? Yes, absolutely. I always...did I say "always"?...yes, always replace pots, caps, and switches with good quality ones for the improved reliability.
