G&L really THAT good?

Re: G&L really THAT good?

When I bought my Legacy, the previous owner had changed the wiring to a traditional Strat setup, and I've been toying for a while of restoring the PTB wiring. How do you reckon that'll work with the Everything Axe mini-buckers that I've got fitted???

Keep on with the pics!!!

Now if I can only decide on the color of my future ASAT Special. Any 2 tone burst ASAT out there?

I think that's the way to go. Want to dial in a little more low end and a bit less tops for the bridge, then reverse it for the neck/mid?......easy. The everything axe set really only has the JB as its HOT pickup. The others are more vintage HB and vintage s/c type tones.

Yeah, I think the PTB is the way to go; you'll have tone controls for all three pickups. The amount of subtle shading you can do is amazing. It seems to work better on the guitars with the hotter pickups (Comanche, S-500, Legacy Special), so you should hear a lot of goodness.

One of the coolest effects--I do this often with my Comanches--I'll get it to start feeding back, and then the I can use the PTB to actually adjust the harmonic. I've done that a couple of times at jams and guys will always come up and ask me how I did that.

The PTB circuit was without a doubt one of Leo Fender's best inventions. I wouldn't play any strat-type guitar without it.

Re: G&L really THAT good?

A friend of mine picked this up a few days ago. I'm gonna see if I can't trade it out of his hands.

Southpawguy, your collection is awesome. I love the natural wood binding.

Cheers Bill. Looks like I'd better find myself 1Meg and 500K pots!

d1dsj, very nice guitars there...What color is that ASAT? Is that the blonde that G&L still uses as a premier finish?

Yes, my favorite colour for either a Strat or Tele type, I still have the blonde Legacy which has a very thin finish.

Yea I like that finish alot, especially if there is a good amount of wood showing through.

I just can't seem to make a final decision.
First it was natural with a rosewood board and black pick guard.
Then it was 2 tone burst, rosewood board, natural mask binding and tortise guard. Now the blonde is on my mind. :banghead:

Re: G&L really THAT good?

This one will be with me shortly ...a 2007 Legacy Special in cherry burst.

The Special is basically a Legacy with Gotoh pickups, locking tuners and a graphite nut and string tree. The pickups are especially fat sounding.

Re: G&L really THAT good?

Yea Southpawguy, that looks like another good one! I just got an ASAT Special a couple weeks ago and I do believe the hype. It's a killer guitar.
